Talk Talk, Belkin and a dent in the wall.

Talk Talk sell you a broadband connection and recommend a Belkin wireless modem. You go to the Carphone Warehouse to collect said modem. It then turns out that the modem is not capable of handling the data transfer rates that the broadband connection offers.

Is this not equivalent to selling someone 1000 litres of milk and then telling them they've got to carry it all home in a thimble?

Ach! The bugger just died again, half way through an upload of files from the ftp server for my website. If it weren't ten to three in the morning I'd make a loud ejaculation of frustration.

I'm not really here

I'm glad you said that. I am in the middle of contemplating changing to talk talk, and half the decision is whether to take on their wireless moden (for £50!) or to get my own (£30 if not less!) and lose any technical support I may need.

I think you've answered my question...

I miss my Belkin smiley - wah

Don't get so frustrated that you're tempted by a BT HomeHub. I've had three in two months and one of them killed my laptop.

Sticks nose in rather late in the day:

The modem they seem to offer is a 54 megabits per second belkin jobby (its difficult to get a new router slower than this these days). This compares with a theoretical maximum offered ADSL speed of 8 megabits per second.

So, in conclusion, are you sure its not some other problem? Very poor reception due to thick walls/distance or a software/setup problem seem like the only reasons you network speed could be holding back you internet speed.

2legs - Hey, babe, take a walk on the wild side...

smiley - erm No idea on these things, and I don't want to advertise as I'm sure they're a naff company in many ways, and certainly make me pay a good deal more than it'd be with any other company, but ooo six or seven years down the line, with the same company here, and we've had two days of outages, and a furhter two days of iffy not full speed connection, with the useually getting lots of bad press NTL... sure they're expensive, but I guess I'm a happy customer as we've recieved a better 'coverage' over the same time than either of the two universitys in town have got on their jannet connections smiley - weirdsmiley - huhsmiley - ermsmiley - 2cents mind... I'm seriously considering getting a 'cheaper' deal at some pint..... but I've been saying that for years and inertia is just so much easier smiley - sleepysmiley - doh
