My son used to listen to Megumi Hayashibara, soundtracks to Oh my Goddess & stuff like that.

I listen to Mad Capsule Markets - they aren't pop music, more heavy metal/electronic/industrial. But they are Japanese!

Yumi Yumi (London Based)
Happy End
mahar shalal hash baz ( a bit wierd)
amongst many, many others. Japan has some of the most innovative musicians working at the moment and is a fine source for great tunes.
