I have a spare duvet ready for extra cold nights and a hat on the bed post just in case there's an extra nip (you lose a great deal of heat through your head). I've got my scarf, hat and gloves on the radiator ready for work tomorrow.
I must admit, I was expecting deep snow by now (Surrey).

Was snowing quite a bit in Birmingham up until around half-midnight, even to the point of sticking on the B-Roads
Ah! I rememember being sent home from school
...in the autumn, spring and summer too, as the teaching unions were in a 2 year long dispute with the government throughout my entire GCSEs, which was nice

The trouble with the uk. A bit of snow and the whole country grinds to a halt.
So much for global warming and the gas company has just raised its prices.
So im sitting in the freezing clod because I am not giving the gas company any more of my money so there!

The UK will get colder/more chaotic weather if global warming turns out to be true - the gulf stream coming across the Atlantic from the US will shift to the North and we'll be governed more by the North Sea temperature-wise, which as anyone from Skegness will tell you is ing cold!

Its cold in my house; I've turned the heating off...... which is probably why its cold... but the workmen are coming in and out and it seems pointless to heat the house for a hour to have it all wasted by the door opening and closing I might go outside now.... see whats the snow like

girl at my school from norway dosn't see what all the fuss is about ...
the truth is that the problem is due to most people in britain not haveing experience or understainding about snowy conditions, and so do not have a respect for it.

Everybody in teh UK just about seems to be a wet girls bloose, I popped out up the road to the corner shop, and the bakery, it wasn't freezing anymore at that time outside, as some snow had melted, though its now beginnign to freeze again. But why does everyone presume, and have to warn* me about 'being careful, its slippary...', Wel, as I tell them I'm as sure footed as a mountain goat well, so long as I'm sobre anyhow But if you were to see some of the people wondering down this road, walking soo slow and cautiously...

You think you're cold? I live in Minnesota, U.S.A., and this whole week it has been around -40 degrees F with the wind chill. And that's in the southern parts of the state. Up in International Falls (known as the nation's icebox) they're at about -30 degrees F even without any wind. And if you're looking for snow, the middle of the state got almost two feet a couple of days ago.
Of course, that's never enough to cancel school (stupid district!).

I was chatting with my sister on msn this morning. She lives in Winnipeg (Winterpeg) Canada. Today it is -35º in Winnipeg, -53º with the windchill factor. A type of cold that most people cannot even imagine.
And nothing is being shut down. It takes at least 3-4 feet of overnight snowfall to shut things down in Canada (unless you live in Toronto, then they call in the army ).
Anyhow, just one of the many reasons I no longer live in Canada!

The thing is though, in the UK, we don't expect cold weather, snow, extrmemes of the weather of any sort.
Sure, eery year we get high winds, or snow, or torrential rain, or hurracains, or blazzing sun for days on end.
But it always seems to supprize us.
No where can cope; snow, trains stop, roads clog, schools shut down.
High wind, roads get blocked by fallen trees, phone lines come down, electricity gets cut off.
High rainfall, flooding, towns evacuated, wireds down, trains stop.
Hot sunshine, fridges break down, tarmac on teh road melts and cars are distroyed by it sticking to them, ice machines pack up and stop working, shops run out of cold drinks, and of course, no where has air conditioning.
I don't know why this is.
A fair few years ago now, when I was studying climatology and weather, one of our lecturers said, 'thay say the Brittish talk about the weather all the time, they do, its cause we have good reason to do so'.
I think what she was getting at is how, like today, it was freezing this morning, and then the sun is out midday like its an early spring afternoon. Following the rule we should end up with flash floods a small hurracaine, and possibly some more hot weather in the next few days My Fathers getting fed up with the weather, he hasn't had any work hardly, since beginning of december, its just been constantly wet since then...
