George Dubya and Iraq - what a surprise!

Post 1

Interesting report on the news this morning that Dubya was looking for a reason to depose the chap previous US regimes had supported, and there was no evidence of WMD! Perish the thought he just wanted to ginger up the trigger-happy rebublicans in election year, to reduce the reliance on pregnant chads.
Will Blair the Teflon poodle still support him, or might we have a U-turn like the one he performed about Ken Livingstone?
Answers on the back of a postage stamp, folks!

I heard on the news this morning that O'Neill is being 'investigated' and the US Treasury guy mealy-mouthedly insisted it wasn't 'punitive' Yeah, and I am the Dalai Lama...

I gather that's because he was talking about documents with "secret" written across them (possibly in wax crayon smiley - erm) but if it's true it just confirms what everyone suspected from the outset - that this war has been a ploy from start to finish.

sorry for these harsh words, but my opinion is that w is more a threat to democracy than his axis of evil.

You can dislike Shrub as much as you like, but he is not an enemy of democracy. The 25% or so of the American electorate who bother to vote can chuck him out of office later this year, and there ain't a dam' thang he can do about it.

The real enemies of democracy in the USA are the 75% WHO DON'T VOTE.

Enemies of democracy in other countries do things like declare themselves "president for life", or hold "elections" where they kill, imprison, or otherwise intimidate anyone who stands against them, or their potential supporters. Mr. Mugabe is a prime example.

I think that a president is a bad idea from the start. Too much power in one person (or in the USA's case man).

Exactly! W is a potential threat to democracy and voter apathy is an actual one.

George Dubya *can* be voted out. In fact, he is constitutionally required to be voted in again as the next president. Or not.

In fact, Tony B Liar has more executive power than Shrub. Shrub *must* have any declaration of war ratified by Congress. Liar apparently can declare war on Breakfast with Frost.

Parliament? Who they?

Wrong.

I had an argument about presidents with with an american a while back in which I was directed to US law stating that a president could not CONTINUE a war without ratification.

He can start one and then has a month or so to pull out if he doesn't get ratification. Add this to veto and marshall declerations and you may see what I mean about too much power.

Great. Anyone want to comment on Liar declaring war on Breakfast With Frost?

Slightly more important, in my less than humble IMO.

Heck, that's why I'm a royalist... at least the UK can always claim its not our fault if our head of state does something stupid... if you've got a President who's an idiot then it is your fault... you voted for him! (or not as the case may be smiley - winkeye)

I agree about the enemies of democracy being those who don't use their votes, especially when the candidates are as uninspiring as Dubya.
love the nickname Shrub

has anyone noticed Tony Blair is an anagram of "I'm Tory Plan B"?

How does that work then when there isn't an m or a P in Tony Blair?
