Tmesis - the seperation of parts of a compound word by the intervention of one or more words.
If I thought I could use Stephen Fry's explanation without getting flamed I would. But I don't think I can.

but doesn't frowsty sound much better than stuffy? Love that word.

My friend and I invented the word 'nert'. Example...
"Are you coming to the shop with me?"
"Nah, I'm feeling a bit nert."
...i.e. can't be bothered to move, feeling lazy. Comes from 'inert' but when you use it you're too nert to say the 'i'.
????!!!!
