Spanish daily 20 Minutos claims Nostradamus tipped Spain to win the World Cup. It quotes one of his prophecies as follows: "In the sixth month of 2006 the King of Spain will cross the Pyrenees with his troops. The legions of Beelzebub will battle him in central Europe and suffer doom and destruction. The Holy Grail will then come to Spain."
Hang on, didn't he predict the world would end in 1999?

So they'll beat Brazil in the final then? All that sambaing & carnivals 'n' stuff surely make them the devil's children?

Ah, but the 'King of Spain' could mean Ashley Giles....

I thought Beckham was the "King" of Spain? His missus seems to think so.

Ho only got very few mentions in the German coverage, probably because the others did all the hard work

I'm just watching the Spain-Mexico game. It's really difficult to follow. Every time the Spaniards form a wall at a free kick, the Mexicans try to climb over it.
What's that all about then?

Today's Gossip Column nugget is:
"Baboons at Knowsley Safari Park near Liverpool are making monkeys out of England fans during the World Cup by stealing the St George's Cross flags off their cars."
It doesn't explain how they got the tickets, though.

You mean I've been sitting down here hiding in this hole with nothing but bully-beef to eat for all these years, and nobody bothered to tell me that it was safe to come out now!?
You utter sods, you!

Are Ecuador the worst team in this World Cup? They can't tackle, pass, shoot or run. They are truly awful. England should have won this 5 or 6 nil.

only England are truly poop too....
but still...
we won, which is great.
Bad news is that I'll be working really late on Friday and will have to endure the Germany game being on the TV ...
I hope they let me put our game on too.

The gods don't seem pleased about it - there's a lot of thunder rolling around up there at the moment.

So who do they go on to play now? I'm not interested, but I have to know this sort of thing to keep up with the conversations at work. My colleague actually had a ticket for the Germany/Sweden game in Munich.

I missed a large portion of the match due to a massive, right overhead thunderstorm here
Thnk goodness - I had to hide in the washroom last time England played. They make my stomah churn with nerves!
(mostly because one or two of my German colleagues seem to think I have some kind of personal involvement with the team and the rowdy hooligans who share my nationality and one of them in particular is really annoying
- the type of person who gives Germans a bad name
