I've heard it said that there is a tunnel near Dover was the beginnings of a channel tunnel - started over 100 years ago. Does anyone know if this is true?

Yes it's true smiley - smiley

Started by the Victorians I believe and very soon abandoned. Probably when they discovered how tricky it was *really* going to be.

1750's or something.
Sounds ridiculous now I come to think about it.
