My garlic has germinated

I don't use much garlic. You have to go to the trouble of getting them out of their natural 'packaging', cutting them up, etc. and the slightly sticky stuff on them stinks up your fingers, and your breath when you eat them. Even when I do use garlic in food, I only feel that I need one of those distressingly almond-like pieces (are those the cloves?) and so I leave the rest behind.
This is why two lumps of garlic (maybe those are the cloves?) ended up sitting in my cupboard for several months, and probably why they have both sprouted shoots about two inches long. I'm sort of debating what to do with them now. Any ideas?

My onion did this too - I planted it in the back garden with the potatoes which got left a bit too long.

Laura

Plant them? Make a herb garden? Throw them away?

I might do that, actually. I have some potatoes which seem to have gone the same way, albeit less so. I was keeping them in the fridge, so that's not entirely surprising.

Your garlic bulbs will grow long thin stems, possibly small flowers, but don't expect to get a bulb of garlic from them. If you want to groow garlic, then you're best using sets - specially bred for the purpose... but if all you want is to give that spark of life a future, then go for it!

Don't plant too deep, btw, bulb just under the grown. Opposite of things like daffs, strangely...
