You may need to buy a new charger, does it operate off the same voltage i.e 240v?

My advice is going to be a bit contentious, but I am wearing by fireproof overalls, so here goes.

don't bother getting a minidisc player at all.

the record function is a joke. they do record digitally into the memory, but you can only export it as analog, making it no better than a 1960's portable tape recorder. (they say it is to stop piracy, but they allow digital downloads into the minidisc player, thus making music copying the only practical use for the device. Silly!!)

if you can, try and get a discman which can play cd-r's with your mp3 collection on them. this way you can have litterally thousands of mp3's easily carried with you.

they shouldn't be more expensive than a minidisc player, and at the same time, allow you to play ordinary cd's as well.

Am I missing something? My mini-disc player records on to mini-discs, either from my PC or hi-fi. It doesn't have a memory. The discs are far smaller than CDs and you can stuff more in your pockets or bag and the record quality is very good.

Are you thinking of those dedicated MP3 players?

no, I am definately thinking of minidisc players.

a friend of mine is a musician, and he wanted to get a digital recorder for sampling sounds when he was out and about.

every source said that minidisc players / recorders would be just the thing, but you would not then be able to get the digital data off the machine (to prevent piracy), but they all allow the loading of digital data onto them, making them only usable for piracy.

he still has not been able to find a good quality digital recorder that he can take with him when he goes out, where he can actually get at the data.

silly really, isn't it.

if you cant find the plug it is usually easy enough to snip off the foreign plug at the end and replace it with a british one.

make sure your adapter is made for the right voltage range for your country.

if not, you can get a replacement adapter from tandy/radio shack type place for a few quid / bucks

Cheers, didnt want to risk your first idea due to bad electrical experiences in the past, but did buy an adaptor that fits all sony products.
