Can you name any films/stories where the hero dies at the end?

Ahh, but it's not that straightforward. Not all the shots are from Federation guns- at least one of them comes from Avon's gun.

Well yes, but as I recall (and its twenty years since I've seen it so it might be a poor memory admittedly) - he smiled at one of the troopers just before he fired, and I read it as a strong implication that the trooper was Servelan and Avon knew it.
Hence they killed one another.
I must watch these again one day. I must say having seen a repeat of one episode of the third series that the final season of Blake's 7 was pretty poor. Repeats I've seen of season 1 have remained pretty good...

As far as I could see the troopers were all male- I thought the reason Avon smiled was because he'd realised that if he'd trusted Blake they would've been able to get out alive; the man who never trusted anyone signed his own death warrant through his distrust.
Series three wasn't the last series, series four was.

Well that was my interpretation at the time.
Anyhoo...
You mean Arnie in T2 or Kyle Rees in the original Terminator?
Either way i'd not go with either because Sarah/John Connor survive and they are the proper heroes.

'All quiet on the Western Front', Circa 1930.
20 years ahead of its time in filmmaking and one of the best films ever made.

Hmmm, Blake's 7. I remember a frantic letter sent to Points Of View pleading with the BBC to tell them that the guns were set to stun.

Serenity - everyone knows that Wash is the real hero in that film and series.
Harry Potter 5 and 6 when they get released
