So why is Colin Powell pronounces Cole-inn rather than Coll-in? Is this the standard pronunciation in the States or something. It just makes me want to call him Colon Powell...

I may have the finer details slightly wrong, but I've heard it explained thus:
His parents called him Colin (normal pronunciation) and they are from the Carribean, or somewhere like that. In the USA they couldn't grasp that pronunciation, since it is not a common name there, and it got turned into Cole-in. Now everybody calls him that (though I wish they wouldn't!).
The Americans seem to have mastered the name now, since I know they don't say Colin Farrell in a strange way. Maybe he'd punch them if they did...

Yea, I'd like to see Colin Farrell punching Americans.
No reason.

I love that they (and by they, I largely mean the US media types) think he's a total hard case and a "bad boy" just cos he drinks and smokes. Like if he enjoys a beer he is obviously a raging alcoholic!
I get the distinct impression he loves taking the piss out of them, by always drinking a beer when they're interviewing him and other such wild and crazy behaviour....

Colin Farrell _has_ at least pretended to punch Americans. Specifically Ben Affleck. He also reportedly swears a lot.
As for Powell, I would be just a bit more at ease if Colin Powell were President of America rather than Bush. Having said that, I would be a bit more at ease if almost anyone were president rather than Bush!

I have a theory that says that American military leaders should go on to become president. Which roughly translated means that I want either Colin Powell or Stormin' Norman Scwarzkopf to be the next US president

Is he the current incumbent? The only American military leader I can think of (although I don't know much about US politics or history) who never became president was McArthur, although he reportedly wanted to use nukes on Vietnam (or was it Korea?).
I have a lot of time for Colin Powell. Whenever I see him in press conferences or interviews, he seems very intelligent, rational and calm, and he always argues his points well. I respect that far more than any military prowess.
