Depends which bit, some are definitely a major turn-off. A certain area of the midlands springs to mind. smiley - run

Oh thanks *storms off in a huff*

Actually, Brum and Black Country accents are now saught after for call centre jobs and, for some bizarre reason, liked in California of all places smiley - winkeye

(Not that I have a bad one, half Smethwick, half Silhillian, my accent's the LEAST confused part of me smiley - tongueout)

Welsh accents = turn on
Scots = turn off
Brum and midlands = turn off
"British-South Asian" = turn off
"Black British" = turn on

Most of the others I'm pretty much indifferent to...

Of course a soft English voice verging on but not quite as "severre" as RP is a turn on too...

Aaaw, Stealth, you can't just say Scots surely, there's a wide variety of accents there (I used to be able to tell them apart in my Uni days but don't get that much exposure now), or do you genuinely find them all a turn off?

If the speaker sounds like someone from Monty Python playing a middle aged/old woman (think the lady who says, "I DON'T LIKE SPAM!!!"), then no.

I don't find anything in Scots a atractive... be wast coast or not if you tell a person a Scot then it really does reduce the atractiveness for me...
Not pretty much indifferent to the N.Ireland accents... too...

I said a soft voice Wampus if you ment RP... the women in the Spam sketch didn't have RP accent though...

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

It didn't do me (London) any harm when I was a-courtin' Mrs Gosho (San Antonio) smiley - loveblush

Scottish accents I don't like, Irish I do, and Welsh I'm indifferent about. smiley - erm

What does RP stand for?

And what accent does the Spam woman have? I've been wondering that for a while, since Monty Python seemed to use that accent a lot.

I like Scottish accents. Apart from Aberdonian, which I can't understand....

I like Southern Irish accents, but not Northern Irish accents. I suppose that I've just heard too much bigotry and hatred spouted in that particular accent over the years. smiley - sadface

At the risk of being a pain, there are a wide variety of N. Irish accents too. The one most people are familiar with (from obvious TV coverage and interviews with the cream of our society <sarcasmsmiley&gtsmiley - winkeye is a strong Belfast accent. Usually this is made very harsh more by the tone of the speech than by the accent itself. I don't like it either and I'm FROM Belfast! (But have a softer accent!)
I love the Fermanagh and Antrim accents. They don't get enough exposure IMHO. Also like a nice Edinburgh accent and Yorkshire is always good too, but a lovely southern Irish accent is the best, especially Cork/Kerry.smiley - smiley

According to a French friend French women find English men speaking French very sexy. Whether that applies to Welsh, Scottish and Irish, I don't know.

He hasn't stated a view on English women speaking French, but then my grasp of the French language is limited to 'Je voudrais............' and whatever I'm pointing at with a polite smile on my face. smiley - laugh

I feel that the "Wes' Cunreee" accent is under-represented. On tele these days you get scousers, Scots, even a Welsh bloke reading the news, but no sign of a West Country accent except occasionally in Casualty.
