h2g2 The Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy: Earth Edition

A friend of mine on H2G2, Skullock, and I are pondering just how we're going to find eachother when we meet in a couple of weeks. We're not sure how to go about doing it--Any help? We've already come up with:

-Set himself on fire and run up and down the halls
-yell HEY DARTH and see who responds (cuz I'm Darth Zaphod)
etc, etc.....any ideas are welcome!!

Just look around earnestly for another person looking around earnestly, maintain eye contact, and voila, it is usually the person you are meant to be meeting. Also helps if you specifiy what clothes you will be wearing too.

They are meeting at a Speech Meet. Most people wear about the same thing. But hey he has seen a picture of you, so...

Swap photos by email in advance, so you've got a vague idea who you are looking out for.

Both turn uup naked, then you'd be able to tell especially if you both wore faulse moustaches, which are, of course, the real secrete, that and silly hats, obviously.

Arrange to meet somewhere really remote, like the Antarctic or something. Can't be many naked people wearing false moustaches there...

I always meet people in the far right corner, people get used to looking for me there. Where appropriate, it can work! Wearing a special color or a hat helps too.

Pick a specific place you can both find easily - and STAY THERE. Also be sure to have exchanged a few photos so you can at least somewhat easily recognize the other person, and know what each other plans to wear - preferably something not everyone else in the area will be wearing, like bright red, or an h2g2 tshirt or some such thing.

And don't be afraid to go up to people who you think are the person you're waiting for and ask them if they are who you think they are. I seem to remember an Aussie meet failing to happen because of a serious lack of that.

How aobut u each carry the same, specific item: Say a block of cheese, or an slipper?

Towels people. Carry towels. And/or a copy of HHGTTG, either the book or a cd or /something/ *G*

Yeah That IS A great idea!

I can't claim credit for it. It's an old idea, butw hen I was going to go to the first Sydney meet I ever attended, I was to meet Feisor somewhere and we were both to be carrying a copy of H2G2 so we could recognise one another. I don't have a copy, though, so it was suggested we carry towels instead, which is something else people aren't likely to be hefting around in public *G*
