i suspect that post 1 with the song in it has been moderated because of copywrite reasons. i don't think post 1 gave the name of the person who wrote the song (i initailly thought it was the researcher who posted it)
here's the song including the name of the writer :

the following is from
http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/classic/HouseRules-Copyright
>>>Fair Dealing
There are exceptions in the Copyright Act which allow for what is called 'fair dealing' with a work protected by copyright. The two that may apply to material you wish to contribute to DNA are:
* Using a work for the purposes of criticism or review (as long as you 'sufficiently' acknowledge it); and
* Using a work (except photographs) for the purposes of reporting current events.
Again, though, this is subjective, and there is often a fine line between fair use and infringement. It will depend on a number of factors such as the size of the quotations/extracts used, how they are used in the work and how proportionate they are to the size of the work. For example, you couldn't quote an entire song, stick 'I like this song, it's great' at the end, and get away with claiming that you were writing a review of that song. However if your piece is a genuine piece of criticism of, say, a book, then you can quite legitimately quote from that book if it is a part of the criticism. The dealing must also be 'fair', so the review must be balanced and properly researched<<<

Even if all references and links to it are pulled from this conversation, I've still got the Google search page in my history

Toccata Posted Jan 28, 2003
I might be being ignorant, but was the song removed because of copyright, because it's not original ( I think it has been doing the round of emails) or because it was deemed offensive/improper?

Depends on the motives of the person who yikesed it I guess.

The song itself I suspected (and partly still do) of being removed for copyright reasons. But the fact that the link to a fully credited version has now also disappeared makes me rather suspect someone was offended by it. Ah well, I can see their point I guess, even if I'd prefer the idea of people making up their own minds without omnipotent moderators...

oh well here's what the mods said :
<<<... The link ... was removed because the content was unsuitable to link to from h2g2. In the current climate we have to be especially aware of the sensitivities of all others using the site.>>>
i might go back and ask them what they mean. i don't really get that the link was more "unsuitable" than what a lot of people are saying about the war on h2g2 anyway.
