Assuming it's on the same servers as www.bbc.co.uk, they're running Solaris 8 -- Unix:

I'm not sure Mac servers get used much... Unix/Linux is common, though.

I don't know about OSX servers now that they are Unix based though.

Good point...

On the other hand, Linux is free -- several companies are moving towards it, including Sun... (as an alternative to their rather expensive Solaris server packages).

I didn't even think about the fact that there would be a free Linux server software. Actually very good news. Is it less hackable? (In simple terms please, I'm a technodunce)smiley - biggrin

Linux is a free operating system, and, yep, it's pretty secure. It also comes with pretty much all the software you need, including servers (well, one of the many distributions will have what you need smiley - smiley).

http://www.redhat.com/ -- RedHat -- is the one I use... click 'Download' in the top-right to get it -- beware, though, that's a good 1.5Gb of downloads smiley - smiley

Interesting to note that only one of the top fifty longest-without-rebooting servers on the net runs Windows...

Apache/Unix is still way ahead of Microsoft servers in terms of numbers:

Microsoft have a not inconsiderable number, though.
