Of Big Oil, By Big Oil, For Big Oil - The 10 Most Startling Speculations and "Conspiracy Theories" About September 11 and America's New War

For about thirty minutes after his chief of staff told him that America was under attack, George W. Bush continued to sit in an elementary school classroom listening to a second-grader tell a story about a pet goat.

I know that I'm not alone in believing that Bush little more than a puppet, so I find it hard to believe that those pulling the strings would allow him to dally in such a way at such a time

Does anyone know if this 30 minute 'delay' really happened?

Bush was at an elementary school in Florida when it happened, reading a story and talking with children. On the tape (yes, it was taped) an advisor came over and whispered something in his ear. Bush grimaced, nodded, and said something back, before turning his attention to the children. Less than an hour later he addressed the press before moving on.

Yep. *caught on tape* I could only guess at the time, all were too stunned to address it OR it was thought we are so stupid to notice.

Um, I didn't mean to support the idea of a conspiracy. I was just confirming that the delay happened. I don't really believe that it was an intentional conspiracy of any sort to allow 9/11 to happen.

Whether completing his time with the children was the right move or not is up in the air, but I think he did what he felt was best at the time (at least, politically).

Thanks,

I'm no conspiracy theorist either - I just find it incredible that even Shrub (or rather his aides) wouldn't at least be seen to be responding immediately to such a monumentous event

Well, for example...

Aide: "Sir, there's been a terrorist attack, we need you ASAP. We'll brief you when you're finished here."

Bush (after a short pause): "Get everything ready, we'll speed this up."

*Shrug*

Sorry to be abrupt folks, but are you lot completely stupid? What would you do in front of a load of kids? I'm the last person to defend Old Bush, but frankly, I would have done the same if I was listening to a bunch of kids speaking to me. He would have risked scaring the living daylights out of them.

Not to mention the fact nobody knew the severity of the attack at that point...

I might be a bit thick but I'm not *completely* stupid

It doesn't take an expert in child psychology to curtail a meeting with 7-year-olds without inflicting permamnent scars

Really. They also KNOW the president has possibly more important things to do!

Hmm. Surely the correct course of action for the president in case of a major terrorist attack is to make for a place of safety...?

That seems to make sense, anyway. Maybe he felt he was safe where he was...

Indeed

Does anyone here have a reliable timeline of events?

I knew I should have kept the list the Mail published.

Anyway, to defend my point, he did the right thing. Kids pick up on the tiniest amount of panic, and he probably prolonged the details for them just a little longer than all the other kids in the Western world. The kids at the day care centre where my Mum works were *so* unbelievably scared. And if you had the choice, what would you do? I'd rather sit with some kids for a little while and then go deal with it than rush out and ruin their morning...
