A lot of mockney idiots round here start a sentence with "I'm not being funny, but..." and then they go on to say something which couldn't really be construed as funny in the humourous OR odd sense of the word.

How about "dead as a doornail" thats a pretty pointless expression seeing as doornails are not alive to start with!..and of course there was my mums favourite" Ill give you something to cry about".surely if youe crying..there must be something to cry about already??

How about "With all due respect..."? People always say that before proceeding to insult or criticize someone, which makes one wonder what kind of respect is due in that situation.
After some years in the Military, this phrase is invaluable!
As is saying Thankyou Sir after the biggest roasting of your career.
It can really wrong foot some one.
