Oh Why,2Legs must you defile this thread with Nighthoover lies?
This is a serious religous forum, where like minded people who have seen the light and been saved, can debate the Voice of Frank!
Does he not say - Winos do not March?
Do you doubt the wisdom of - Were we really Safe in San Antonio?
You have shown in the past to be an enlightened one "Praise Dinah- Moe Hum" but I feel the faith begining to waver.
Can't you see that the Nighthoover cult is just an easy fix for you troubled people in todays fast-paced world.
Embrace the Voice of Frank and fear ye not the weasels!

A friend, not versed in tehe way of the mighty Frank Zappa has made a request of me To produce a compulation album for him, which, in the short space of a CDR disk, sums up something of the music which found within the fold of Frank, and his wonderous music and, what shall I, of all the music of Zappa, include in such a short introduction: the Friend in question is famular with some of the work that has been, such as Montana, stinkfoot, and a fair bit of the Apostrophy "'" album, so, what should I include in this album?; so far, I am considering King kong, big swifty, cocaine Desicions, Where the tor#ture never stops, Jewish princess, Boby Brown, Be in my video, and many more beside, which, sadly, will not fit in the prerequsit single CDR disk, or should I blow it all, and do at least two CDs? Or, a couple of entire albums; thinking of Waka/Jawaka, and, perhaps something like Ahead of Their time tricky when all the songs are so unique help is required fellows

Thats a tough one.
I think a starting point would be for you to find out which of the following he would prefer. (as there are so many sides to Frank)
The Guitar God.
The Composer.
The Humorist.
As a follow up to Hot Rats, Waka/Jawaka is great but can you imagine his disgust if he was expecting "Valley Girl"?

quite... well, I think waht he wanted was not so much a particular thread to Zappa's music, but rather a taste of the kinds of music that got me interested in the whole cabodal of Zappa and all aspects.
So, i guess it would be along the "Zappa the composer, and humourist" as that's probably, as far as I can remember, what first got me interested; hence Big swifty, King kong, and some of the other tracks like that, unfortunatly, they all tend to be the longer tracks, and you can quickly fill a CD with three or four tracks like that, probably not giving much of a balance :- perhaps I should do; one with the Frank Zappa as composer, with the mainly longer length songs; and another with some of the (mainly shorter), Frank Zappa as a humourist songs; which could touch a little on guitar god music Guess what I should really do, is just lend him my entire collection over Christmas, but thelast time I lent some Zappa out (radio promo vinyl from early 70's, mint condition), I never saw the person, or the vynal again

If he is after what got you into it, maybe just a collection of YOUR favourite stuff?
Then, after some plays, he would be able to say which way he would next like to go?
Or a live album? They've always got a good selection?
It's hard to recommend .......... there's stuff I hate by him but I know other people love. (mmmm, I may of shot myself in the foot there! As I speak with the Voice of Frank, Am I supposed to like everything he has done?)

:- but its so difficult saying what my favourate songs are; I could give a list of, say, my favourate 15 or 20 albums, but I'd struggle cutting it down to individual songs, let alone deciding to take even one album off the favourate list and I do like pretty-much all the songs, with a few exceptions, and certainly like all the different styles represented in Frank's huge back catalogue (I've currently something over 30 albums on CD, most of which I've already got on vinyl, plus a few on vynal I've not yet got on CD)

greetings 2-legs. I've been chatting to s.d.monkey re: all things zappoid (I see you too are a true devotee (like myself)..I too have been confronted with the 'how the fuk do I choose!' from the back cat-a-log...but thought I might share this evenings activity...a mate asked if I could out together a 'bluesy' list for a cd burn - this is my offering:
Excerpt From THE Uncle Frankie Show - Mystery Disc
Wplj - Son of Cheep Thrills (April 1999)
Original Mothers Rehearsal - Mystery Disc
We Are Not Alone - Cheap Thrills
My Guitar Wants To Kill Your Mama (Live) - Cheap Thrills
Tell Me You Love Me - Chunga's Revenge
Speed-Freak Boogie - Mystery Disc
Harmonica Fun - Mystery Disc
Get A Little - Weasels Ripped My Flesh
The Birth Of Captain Beefheart - Mystery Disc
Metal Man Has Won His Wings - Mystery Disc
I Could Be A Star - Cheap Thrills
RDNZL - Lost Episodes
Twenty Small Cigars - Chunga's Revenge
Love of My Life (Live Version) - Son of Cheep Thrills (April 1999)
Chunga's Revenge - Chunga's Revenge
Road Ladies - Chunga's Revenge
Lil' Clanton Shuffle - Lost Episodes
maybe not a broad representation across many albums (limited a little by what I have to date on cd..and the fact that said mate ain't a convert (yet!) so tried to keep it easy (chunga's revenge may present a challenge)....
but I have to say, it's been spinning on the hard-drive all night and I reckon it does the job!
Interesting to give yourself a subject matter or genre and work with that....
if someone could show me how to get a jpeg in here you could check out the cover I put together too....any ideas??
anyway - I'd be interested to know how yours works out.
later

Well, I've not given it that* much thought since I' was lat on here too many other things happening though I've been listening to Zappa most of the day, only interupted with a smattering of the Goons earlier and some Stacey Kent, but let us not speak of such others I'm still undecided weather to do a mix of rock/blues type stuff, or a total emersion into the world of Zappa's instrumental (mainly), songs, tricky, though I think the later is probably more what my Friend seaks, having been exposed to Zappa in the 70's, the former would probably get more air play on his Cd player I'll ahve to think some more, or just burn both of them

Enough of this heresey! Superdogmonkey knows and understands that the only true saviour is indeed, David. David Jones/Bowie/Ziggy Stardust/Aladdin Sane/Thin White Duke. He goes by many names, but he should be known to all men as the true saviour. Yea, verily I say, he is the one and true leader of all mankind - yes, Frank is a prophet, but our saviour is Mr Bowie. Verily, when he said that it was a 'godawful small affair' (to the girl with the mousy hair) he was refering to Zappa.
Bless you my children, may you soon learn and understand the true voice and gain redemption.
Amen

Dugdog, mrsthewife is just someone who has not yet seen the light!
Don't be angry.......... she knoweth not of what she speaks.
Bowie has his place in the world - I have many of his recordings but none speak with the Voice of Frank.
Any other followers of the false prophet bowie, please take note of the sins he has commited..... these are just some of the reasons why he will never be a saviour!
Letting Lulu record "Man who sold the World"
Very bad teeth.
Odd eyes - which changed colour the first time he heard "Burnt Weeny Sandwich"
"The Laughing Gnome"
Most of his films.
The Glass Spider tour.
Yellow baggy suits.
Bad, floppy haircuts.
"Lets Dance"
The Bing Crosby duet.
Wallpaper design.
His version of "China Girl"
All praise Frank!

....and relax.
mmmmmmmm o.k. it's just I get the odd flash-back to the glass spider tour and...well, you know, I don't like to talk about it...it still hurts sometimes. You know, when it's dark and quiet and I'm all alone...then the sweats come and...well - let's just say a healthy dose of hot rats followed by a chunga's main course is the only remedy....
ok, maybe we won't burn her...maybe we could do that thing on clockwork orange where they pin the guy down and hold his eyes open and play beethoven 'til he sees the error of his ways...
mind you.....(in small whisper) she would have a point if she said 200 motels was ...well, let's just say challenging.....? (in even smaller whisper) can I say that. or will be cast down?

Well, it al smells of cosmic debris to me I mean, even dead girls of London have some conceptual continunity and, well, vial and omishous, perhaps even obsessed and derranged, when people this has existed for years, uyet very little has changed, then perhaps we can all move to Montana
