I don't see why not - I cooked Australian Barbie Prawns for VIP once - containing a large quantity of lager. Guinness prawns is just the high-protein version.

I think that there is charm to be found in every season. Those dark, slightly misty damp evenings when you can see peoples breath, steamy in the air and bright haloes around the street lights; those bright cold days when you can go for a brisk country walk and then go home just as dusk is falling and sit in front of the fire drinking tea and eating hot buttered crumpets, safe from the weather outside are for me among the high-spots of the year!

Not got a lot of use for sleaty, windy days in February though!

And I hate hot weather too

I've always enjoyed wintertime (although it is annoying that it's dark when I leave the house in the morning and dark again on the way home). It's much easier to add clothing or covers when I'm chilly than to try to cool down during the oppressive heat and humidity we get here in the summers. While I'll agree that cold, rainy weather is depressing, I just love the crisp, clean air on a sunny winter's day.

Granted, here in Chicago, we do occasionally get hit with bitter cold and heaps of snow. All in all, though, I still much prefer the wintertime. Nothing beats curling up on the couch in flannel jim jams, woolly socks, and a down blanket, with a nice cup of chocolate and a good book. smiley - smiley

kelli - ran 2 miles a day for 2012, aiming for the same for 2013

I like sunshine. If it comes in autumn when everything is crisp and cold then it is lovely to wrap up warm and go out. If it comes in the summer when it is hot then it is lovely to bask in it (in my factor 30 - am blonde, freckly and not suicidal), mmmm vitamin d...

I hate rain - unfortunately that is the default weather setting most of the time here (uk). I went to Sydney and Ulhuru earlier in the year and it rained on me there too. Sydney sucks in the rain (total deluge the whole time I was there) and while Ulhuru is interesting, I would have loved to see a sunrise or sunset there, and see the night sky without light pollution. Alas it was not to be because of rain.

I hate rain.

In winter it rains more than in summer/autumn/spring (usually anyway) therefore winter is my least favourite season.

Did I mention that I hate rain?

smiley - puffk - both summer and winter fashion is not kind to women with figures like mine so for preferance I'll go for a sunny spring that is cool enough that I can cover my wobbly bits with one layer without looking odd, boiling or freezing. smiley - cheers

Gnomon - time to move on

In Ireland, it rains more in the Summer than in the Winter. It just feels like more in the Winter because it is more miserable.

Thanks pheloxi smiley - smiley

Gnomon, I did a tour of Ireland in a camper van a few years ago to visit my family over there and certainly noticed a certain dampness to the summer smiley - smiley When the sun did come out though, the countryside was beautiful smiley - biggrin

Having lived in the Far North of Scotland, and also being an avid amateur astronomer, I like winter - in summer it doesn't really get dark enough to see the stars by, but in winter (on the odd occasion that we got a clear day smiley - smiley you could see them by three in the afternoon, sometimes.

Also, it's amusing to see the panic in Londonshire when half an inch of snow falls, while we have a few feet of it on the ground.

No, mild & damp here in Cambridgeshire. Quite unseasonal but not unusual! Still, it saves on the heating bills.........

Winter and darkness is not the time to lie torpid.nature doesn't feel itself asleep, nor do the people with hot water bottles or else.Winter is the time for rushing, people realize they are being propelled by that, like we closing our eyes on the verge of dozing off feel endless zipping through the horizons of space. It is not for nothing that new year celebrations take place in December. During that time we embark the train en route to summer cos we long not for forthcoming winter months ahead.Nor is the winter dark,we literary get the sun in winter, the latter retracing its ecleptic steps .Years are not renowned for winters , but for summers.Winters are whirlwinds of time, summers stay put. It is a great pleasure having this whirlwinds grow in volume. But should one complain of inconvinience of traveling in a train? Go get the first class!

Ah, Gardener, *nor is the winter dark* - so far it has been pretty dreary here, lights on all day indoors. I wouldn't mind it cold & bright, but I'm getting a bit fed up with grey days. smiley - sadface
