Mobile Phone being weird

Mister Matty

My mobile phone (and old Nokia model) was sitting beside my PC and suddenly it beeps, starts flashing it numberpad lights and tells me that it's calling a number without me doing anything! I cancelled the call but I have no idea what it was up to. A few minutes later it did it again and again I cancelled but this time turned it off. Does anyone know what this is all about?

Does your PC have an infra-red port?

Not that I know of. What would constitute an infra-red port?

Is it trying to call a number from the memory, or is it just random? Could be something causing the dial key to stick and redial the last number you called. Or it could be evil shape-changing pixie creatures. smiley - monster

Switching it off and on again is always a good bet. While it's off, you could try cleaning the SIM card.

It's not a number from memory. The key's aren't stuck. Also, normally if I call a number the keypad lights don't flash and it doesn't go "bleep" first, as it did this time.

Right. Must be evil shape-changing pixie creatures then...

Just realised that by "calling" it probably meant "incoming" smiley - blush. In that case, I wonder who it was as they weren't in my saved numbers smiley - huh

I was going to say "If it's ringing and lighting up without you touching it, you're probably receiving a call," but I thought that was patronising. smiley - winkeye

Gnomon - time to move on

Is this the first time somebody's rung you, then? smiley - smiley

Erm - at risk of sounding patronising - you could try turning it back on and checking your received calls. And if there's an unfamiliar one at the end of the list you could ring it and say stuff like, "Who are you? What do you want? Why are you tormenting me? Leave me alone!!"

Then again it could be the pixies.

For added effect, you could call the number at 3 a.m. smiley - devil
