It's not me - no beard, for a start - but I wondered if anyone else had any famous namesakes out there? (And yeah, I guess I'd class appearing in a BBC Sports report as famous, but I'm pretty shallow...)

Gnomon - time to move on

I also share my full name (first name and surname) with a footballer, in this case a Gaelic footballer from Wexford. I also had the same name as a young guitarist who played in the night clubs of Dublin until he tragically died at the age of 30.

Depends if we're talking H2G2 names or RL names....

For H2G2 you could start with Glenmorangie and work your way up from there smiley - drunk

smiley - erm Stick my RL name into a search engine and I end up with hundreds of responses telling me I killed John Lennon. smiley - yikes

After that comes the fact that I don't actually know if I'm related to a member of Monty Python or the founder of Lotus...

And if anyone can't guess my RL name after that, you really aught to try to get away from your computer a little more smiley - nahnah

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

A Google search on your own name is good for finding out just who else you share it with. In my case, no-one famous.

Otto Fisch ("Stop analysing Strava.... and cut your hedge")

I was a bit shocked to discover that I shared a real life name with a minor Hollywood actor who was in "Saving Private Ryan". And I have a quite an unusual name.

Otto Fisch is, of course, a world famous composer who wrote dreadful stuff for the french horn.

Unlike me.

Otto

The author who wrote 'English Passengers' almost has the same name as me. His name has a 'K' and mine doesn't. A well know touring car driver also almost has the same name as me; his doesn't have an 'E' and mine does.

You can call me TC

If I search my real name I find a namesake who is a musical chorus girl. And I can hardly even get my legs over the edge of the bed in the morning!

When I was little, there was a girl who occasionally appeared on Crackerjack and was about 16 and whistled very expertly. At the time, we didn't have the same name, but now I'm married my name's the same as hers.

And there is a Quentin Tarantino film about someone with my name, too. They wouldn't let me in to see it for free, which I thought was rotten.

An actress with the same name I was born with was in Doctor Who in the 60's. When I joined "Six of One", (the Prisoner A744897 Appreciation Society) in the 70's, the first question people used to ask was "Are you....."

So far, I haven't found anyone else with my exact name - Google hasn't located any doubles. Mind you, I've calculated that there are 72 different ways of spelling my name, and I've never Googled the other 71 spellings!

Emily 'Twa Bui' Ultramarine

If you look up the name on my birth certificate on Google it throws up loads of searches, but if you type in my name as is, I'm the only one who turns up. My friends were mightily peeved when I changed it - 'Emily Salmon' can be made into the anagram 'Slimy Lemon'... smiley - biggrin

Philbert

When testing a search engine (www.alltheweb.com) I typed in my name. I found quite a few entries about me (cool!) but I also found one about a rock drummer called Phil Lenoir (for that is my name) who played for a group that became The Pink Fairies. If anyone knows this impostor please get him to come clean.

He can email an apology to me, my addy's in my space.

There is a BBC scotland reporter (who also reports on Radio 5 Live) with my name as well as a Sports Writer in The Times. smiley - smiley

I've seen two others with my name on TV too in my time and there was a boy in the village where I spent my formative years with the same name as me.

Having said that, my real name is probable almost as common as John Smith so it's not really a surprise...

I share my name with a photographer (famous in the 60s and 70s) who took some very famous pictures of the Kray twins.

I keep getting emails from photography and arts students wanting to know if I am the real deal... it can be very anoying at times.

Have any of you been tempted to pretent to be your namesake online?

It appears I am unique. I only get references to myself when I put my name in, although the autist pointed out that my h2g2 name is in the title of a song - Fat Kelli's Teeth
