According to Webster's dictionary it is spelled dub-el-yoo.
But then it is Webster's dictionary and he can spell anything the way he wants.

Oxford English Dictionary:

W, w, (dubelyoo) n. (pl Ws or W's). twenty-third letter of alphabet.

The bit in brackets is how you pronounce the letter.

The OED doesn't distinguish between the alphabet used in Britain and that used in other countries. I think this is because:

1) If you're using their dictionary, you know how the alphabet goes.
2) Most Western / European countries use the same alphabet (unless you're in Greece, or somewhere Eastern European).

smiley - bigeyes

I didn't put M-W's pronunciation in (because of the high-ascii characters), but it -is-, of course, there. smiley - winkeye The question wasn't how to pronounce it, but how to spell it. smiley - winkeye
