We had the opposite ends of the spectrum in NZ last night.
In Auckland Bill Clinton spoke to more than 700 @ $800 a ticket for the launch of the new BMW series. Attended by politicians and the wealty.
In Wellington the Dali Lama spoke to the tibetan community and those wanting to hear from a spiritual leader talking about peace and human brotherhood etc.
Which would you rather have attended, had you the chance?

In spite of my love for really fast cars, it would be the Dali Lama, no contest.
He comes across as a wonderful person and it would be a great privilege to meet him.

I wouldn't really want to listen to either of them ... but $800 a ticket to listen to Billy Boy mumble a few words is obscene. What on earth can he say that would be worth paying that much to hear?

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho Posted May 27, 2002
I was lucky enough to hear the Dalai Lama speak once - at Ally Pally in London. There was also an exhibition of Tibetan culture outside in the park - stalls and tents, that sort of thing. Later on, His Holiness led prayers for peace with a dozen or so religious people from various faiths. If you ever have the chance to go to one of his lectures/talks/teachings you should grab it with both hands
As for Slick Willie... yeah, well

They showed an excerpt from the Dali Lama sitting cross legged in his chair smiling and laughing, he seems really nice. The sound bite was of him promoting the idea that people are more important than "my nation, your nation or his nation" - If only more leaders would take that view.

Did I get that right?
The former "leader of the civilized world" doing a commercial for BMW at 800$ a ticket?
Geez, if thats not a HUGE step backwards for Mr Clinton, then I have never seen one...
BTW, if you translate leader and but it in relation to BMW being a german company, you could say they bought themselves their very own "fuhrer"
Anyway, I´d go and see the dalai lama... even if Clinton paid me 800$ to attend the show...

He's doing better than a lot of other ex-presidents, some of which have retired into poverty.

Maybe I will get flamed, but what have the Dalai Lama ever done? Everybody talks about what a big inspiration he is, and a great spiriutal leader, but has he ever done anything concrete to better the world? I think people like Mandela and Mother Theresa seem a lot better.

I would choose Clinton. He was definitely one of the brighter Presidents in history and I would be interested to hear what he has to say on more or less any subject.

In the time since Clinton has ceased to be US President I have seen him on TV making contributions to a number of documentaries. His comments without fail show great understanding and insight into the issue at hand. I was particularly impressed with what he had to say in a series about the Northern Ireland peace process, where he demonstrated a finer grasp of the politics involved than any of the UK politicians taking part.
Ok, on the other hand, he's demonstrated a lack of abaility in keeping his trousers on. So what? I don't care, and seems the US electorate didn't care either. Had the US constitution allowed Clinton to run for a third term as President he would have wiped the floor with Dubya. And just perhaps we wouldn't then have some the messes around the world that we are facing today.
The Dalai Lama? Well he escaped into exile once. Next?

Politicians read from script. How do you know that clinton wasn't reading from script on the documentary? It's not like politicians actually write their own speeches.
When the alternative is dubya or gore who wouldn't vote clinton.
I like what the autist said Forrest 'dubya' Gump
I think clinton will be well remembered, even if for nothing else, because he's compared to the chimp Americans elected in office now

I'd like to point out that Americans didn't vote that chimp into office. Most of us voted for the other guy.

GreyDesk Posted Jun 1, 2002
It wasn't a speech it was a documentary series. None of the politicians interviewed were still in power so there was no party line for them to follow.

You mean the joke is true?
Punchline: Learning that the good-oldboy network in the south can still buy an election..... Priceless!
