Help with a nasty brother in law
Go-Go Girl Started conversation Apr 28, 2002
I am at my wit's end, trying to protect my sister and my 3 year old nephew from a very unhappy, violence filled life.
She feels trapped and very lonely. She is not allowed to havefriends by him. How can she reverse this without raiisng his hostility?

She can't.I doubt that he will change so her only option is to leave. This will be the end result one way or another. You can be her ear and her shoulder but the best way you can help is to help her to leave for good. This is a much repeated story for many women.Take a look at this thread http://www.bbc.co.uk/dna/h2g2/alabaster/F19585?thread=148770&post=1437920#p1437920 Incog.

Hi GGG,
This sounds to me like a job for the experts. Try
http://www.wdvh.org.uk/
as a starting point. This site categorises "not allowing friends" as a form of domestic psychological violence.
I think this is a good forum for support and sharing personal experiences, but probably not a good one for advice, apart from this post, of course.
My best wishes to you and to your sister and her son...
Otto
