I was always a fan of Dr Suess, my favourite had to be 'There's a wocket in my pocket'. I just used to love the art work in the books. I actually found a copy of 'Sam I am' (another favourite) in a Waterstones booksale for £1.99, so I bought it for my girlfriend, who, to my disgust, had never read any Dr Suess/Cat in the Hat material.

Jimsainly, I do hope you have been reading Dr Suess to your girlfriend, It should become compulsory in schools from 4 to 18. What a bizzare world we would live in, if children studyed Dr Suess instead of Shakespeare.

Where The Wild Things Are-a classic indeed, and one I happily bought for a seven year old of my acquantaince.
The Moomins.
A strange Australian book, going back to the early part of the century (I would think) called The Magic Pudding.
The Phantom Tollbooth.

Oh I had that, and now my kids have it, along with several others of his, the names of which I won't give because I'll have to translate them back from German and they'll be a bit off.
The Narnia books were my favourites, and Ivanhoe (which I still read every year)
Plus I loved the stories about Mrs. Pepperpot. Anyone remember her? I think they were Norwegian or something. At the end of her adventures she would always cook a pile of pancakes for her husband.

Kind of lost the reading thing for a few years between about 8 and 18 but before then there were loads of faves.
The Tiger who came to Tea and ate absolutely everything.
George the Dragon who couldn't breathe fire and ate boxes of matches in a vain attempt to.
The BFG, Boy and Going Solo by Roald Dahl were also faves.
Can't think of any others except of course all the Asterix books ...

The Hungry Caterpillar is of course famous for being Dubya's favourite book.
Stop laughing at the back. Just because it was the only book he'd ever read is beside the point...

It was a set of Children's Encyclopaedias, I can't remember the publisher (poss. Collins?). I do know my Mum still has them boxed up in the loft just in case I have any kids and they can be resurrected. (They'll have a long wait )

The really interesting thing about "The Hungry Caterpillar" being Dubya's favourite children's book is that it was first published long after he was a child.

James Herriot, The Christmas Day Kitten.
oh, and a crappy blue cockatoo book that you buy in Woolies about a ghost in a lighthouse. (I think that has something to do with the ghost-noises my mum used to make)

Ooh, the Just So Stories. I forgot about those, which is odd because that's another childhood favourite that I *still* have a copy of.
