Blues Shark - For people who like this sort of thing, then this is just the sort of thing they'll like

It's not awkward is all I would say to that-about one in every four witnesses affirms in my experience, including a sizable chunk of the constabulary.

In western societies we have rights, and we pay for them with duties. In my opinion we not only have the right to vote we also have the duty to vote, even if - especially if - all we do is spoil the paper.

Likewise we have the right to be tried by our peers - essentially lay people - and we therefore have the duty to participate if requested.

I would be intersted in doing jury duty, but like Lady in a tree, I am a freelance and paid a daily rate. However, if jury duty came up while I was not working I would definitely do it.

My father had to have an inquest even though he had died in a nursing home with me, my mother, the head nurse and our GP there. I welcomed the chance to go to the inquest, both for the personal reasons, and because it is not something that you get the chance to see every day.

No experience is bad experience (though an experince can be *a* bad experience, of course). I find it really hard to understand why someone would not be interested and curious about this aspect of how our society works, even if they want to take the benefits of that society and freeload their way out of the reciprocal duties.

Hey - this must be a first - Two Bit, Blues Shark and me all agreeing on something!
