Last night i went to see "A Day in the Death of Joe Egg" at the Comedy Theatre with Eddie Izzard and Victoria Hamilton in the lead roles. It was bloody brilliant. I've always really liked the play, but this was a great great production. Tonight is the final performance - anyone in LOndon should go, now, and rush for the last tickets.

So shall we all start going to the Theatre? We have a book club here at H2G2 now, why now a Theatre Goers Guild. We can advise each other what to so / what not to see - and produce collaborative entries on what we all go to.

I love the theatre! Especially musicals.

I'm just waiting for the Playhouse to reopen in Liverpool, then I will be truly happy! I saw the best adaptation of "The Woman In Black" there....just 2 men, a couple of stools and a wicker chest! All done with lighting/sounds/very good acting. It was, for something so minimalist, the most atmospheric show I have ever seen.

You start a group, I'll join!

Going to see 'Stomp' on Saturday.

Out trip to see 'Art' at the Whitehall Theatre clashed with the meet and thanks to engineering works on the rail track we didn't get time to call in and see everyone.

I can highly recommend 'Private Lives' with Alan Rickman and Lindsey Duncan, by Noel Coward. Very funny and beautifully performed.

And 'Lion King' is fantastic.

And our local theatre company is performing 'Oklahoma' in March - tickets still available if you're anywhere near Hemel Hempstead, plug plug. smiley - smiley

That, alas, is the extent of my theatregoing over the last couple of years.

The theatre is cool. I am going to Stratford-upon-avon on Monday to see 'A Midsummer Night's Dream'. I got Ibsen's 'The doll's House' at a jumble sale today, which should be good for a read. Last week i finished a drama exam which was hard and very stressful, the fact that i suck at drama doesn't help.

What a strange coincedence that my dramatic exploits have been so busy, when this thread came up. Weird

I saw Private Lives last year - execllent stuff. Such a wonderful play, really timeless - even the bad productions can't kill it. But the Lovely Lyndsay Duncan and Alan Rickman pull it off with such terrific apolm. The season has been extended until March.

Did anyone else here see Joe Egg?

Caerwynn - thank you, thank you, thank you!!

I did not realise Stomp were touring until I saw your post. I shall be booking for Sadlers Wells tickets tomorrow! As luck would have it my birthday falls on a Friday (12th April) and that's when I am aiming to get tickets for.

We went to see them in New York a few years ago and they were absolutely brilliant. I have always loved percussion and those guys (and girls) really know about percussion.

We went to see Blue Man Group (those guys that did the Pentium 4 adverts) while we were in Las Vegas last year and they were fantastic - but still not a patch on Stomp.

Enjoy yourself on Saturday - but be warned, your feet will not stop moving for the whole performance - and as for your hands, I reckon they will be pretty sore from all the clapping! smiley - biggrin

I'm seeing The Blue Room soon, its not Nicole Kidman anymore though!

Seen Stomp a few times they are great.

Croydon has its own Fringe theatre, so we do quite well here, and try to see everything they do, except for Dick Barton!

I am glad Stomp gets your vote, Lady in a tree and Kaz, we are really looking forward to going.

I see that the Tribute to the Blues Brothers, with Antonio Fargas is also touring. But I think we shall have to miss it this time around.

Noel Coward's "Private Lives" is on until the 3rd of March at the Albery Theatre. Starring Alan Rickman and Lindsay Duncan, with Emma Fielding and Adam Godley.

I went to see this in the Summer and it was bloody brilliant. Have other researches seen it? Would others like to? We could have a H2G2 jolly down to the theatre, put on our best bib and tuckers. We could write a communal entry on the play and production when we've been to see it.

Anyone up for it?

We couldn't get in to see Private Lives, as we are otherwise engaged over the weekends till after the 3rd.

Saw Simon Callow in Dickens during December. It was a one man show and he was brilliant. We really enjoyed it.

A theatre trip sounds fun!

We should probibly set up a page for this like the Reading Group - what is the usual proceedure? Is it to log in as a new persona and 'become' the Dramatic Society?

You can just do it as a guide entry, providing you are willing to maintain it. Not been to the theatre in a while, last saw ... um ... Alan Bleesdale one about vasectomies ( smiley - yikes ) must go and see something else soon. I actually know someone on site who has seen Joe Egg, I'll go alert them to ths thread now.

Saw Joe egg on the 13th Sept last year. I went primarily coz Clive Owen was in it, and one of the lasses I went with is a big fan. I try not to read reviews & Synopsis as I try to let the play do its own thing on the night.

It wasn't the best week for such an in depth play, or such a sensitive subject matter. But despite it having so much against it I thought it was wonderful. It's shocking, and leaves you dumbfounded, but it really makes you think, I would certainly recommend it, but not on an occasion when you need cheering up!

Can't remember the name of the one about vasectomies involves balls I think! It did warn about male nudity, and I was expecting the chap to flash his bum or something, but we got a monologue of ten mins or so of this (shaved) chap strutting around the stage & jumping up on tables etc smiley - blush

Also recently seen Reduced Shakespeare & Ideal Husband. - enjoyed both
There's another Noel Coward on here soon, with Susan Hampshire, I thought it was Private lives, but I'm sure it's not the Alan Rickman one!
