Mr. Cogito

Hello,

Ah, is that what it might be? I was thinking it would be an increase in magical powers and crushing authority. Now I guess I should cancel my plans for all here to appease me before they feel my mighty scoutly wrath. smiley - winkeye

I think we might be able to magically move entries around the various Scoutly places without asking The Powers That Be Overworked, or something similar. Does that count as magical powers?

Hello,

Well, not as good as smiting disbelievers and commanding worship of me through small golden idols, but it'll do. smiley - winkeye

I know that everyone wants people to review and comment on Entries in Peer Review, but to be honest, I'm just not good at it! I can't read something and make insightful comments about what needs to be done or fixed. I've seen things that I thought were awful that were scooped up immediately, and things I thought were wonderful passed by, so this obviously isn't what I should be doing! smiley - winkeye I'm friendly and like to greet people, and that's why I became and ACE instead of a Scout!

That being said, should someone really be penalized when they put up an Entry simply because they haven't reviewed someone else's work? It's fine to say review and be reviewed, but maybe someone isn't good at reviewing.

we're talking about different things there, Shea smiley - smiley
Commenting on the PR something every researcher is invited to do, and /every/ comment is useful! And none of this is required to be able to submit an entry of one's own device.
Being a scout entails doing the very same, but on kind of a regular basis (avoiding the term 'professionality' here).

Perhaps I fixated on this line, my friend:

> If you want people to review your entries, surely it's only polite that you review other people's entries?

And my tremendous paranoia had it hit me right between the eyes ... smiley - smiley

You can get picked without reviewing other people's entries, just as you can get picked without using GuideML, and you can get picked if you use lots of 'unconventional' spellings or word orders, and you can get picked if you write (well) about something which is fundamentally uninteresting, and you can get picked without being an active member of the community, and you can get picked if everyone thinks you're an annoying idiot, and so on.

*but* these things do have an effect, and if I were to deny that I'd be lying. Specifically, these things have an effect on how often other people review your entry, and the quality of the feedback you'll get. Often entries require a little feedback and a few rewrites before they're ready for the guide, so this makes a difference. Incidentally, ACEs and GAs get a bonus too: I'm somewhat more likely to review an entry by someone who helped me get into the swing of h2g2 when I was a mere newbie.

Ok, I'm biased to heck and back - string me up now... smiley - skull
