Just thought I would ask this What do you remember most about your childhood?
For me it was moving, we moved around a lot when I was younger but always in the same area.

I remember spending a lot of time wishing I was grown up.
And now I am grown up I spend a lot of time acting childishly. But it's so much more fun now.

I remember being terribly lonely, my only brother went away to boarding school when I was 5, my parents never had any time for me and I spent most of my days playing alone in the garden.

I'm with Mina. Wanted to be grown-up, and now I am, and it's much better than being a child, but I still act childishly. (Hell I am having a party tonight with baloons and jelly and ice-cream; thogh this time it is vodka-jelly).
My mother read to us until we left home, so we graduated from Pooh, through Narnia, and LoTR to Jane Austen, via a lot of other stuff on the way. There is something very luxurious about settling down on the sofa in the evening to listen to someone reading Persuasion while you sew a fine seam.

I remember my stickle bricks. I used to play with them for hours and over the years I kept losing all the pieces. The last two (a red and a blue one) take pride of place on my bedside cabinet.

Childhood memories.....
I remember my mum taking a photo of me when I was about two.
I still have the pic!
And sharing a bedroom with my little sister & little brother.
And sherbert lemons & cola cubes & sherbert dip.

I remember :-
fighting my sister with sticks of freshly plucked rhubarb,
building myself a little den in the cupboard under the stairs to retreat to with a good book if family life got too much,
my mother encouraging us to enjoy classical music by playing Swan Lake and dancing round the living room swathed in net curtains pretending to be a dying swan. My sister cried
reading, lots, all the time
insisting on reading stories I'd written to every house guest
with embarassed nostalgia

My little brother - who is now a respected scientist - being weighed by the midwife in a contraption like those anglers use, a spring with a net attached. As she held him at eye level to read the scale, the net began to swing round and he watered the midwife, the dressing table, my mom and my dad liberally!!
On the way to see relatives from Australia, all dressed up in my best white hat & coat and being given a chocolate biscuit.........
Visiting my mothers auntie in Machynlleth who didn't speak English well and telling her it was no use speaking Welsh as my ears didn't hear it very well.
God I was a precocious little brat - what's new, I just got older.

My memories are tv ones - bagpuss, and pot black. I can remember how our house used to be, before we swapped the dining room and lounge over.

I remember being acutely aware of how the timing of my birth affected my life. Family-wise, I was the first of a batch of children (cousins mostly), and I was always the one responsible for the others while the grown-ups got on with the serious business of laundry and drinking coffee.
At school, the same problem - the oldest in my year, just a little late to be included in the year above. Result? It gave the impression I was smarter than my classmates, for some reason this was reinforced by the teachers at my school which didn't help. It made it kinda difficult to fit in, so after a while I stopped trying.
