Det kan være jeres grammatik er mere komplieret, men alligevel er vi der behersker den danske grammatik et stolt mindretal!smiley - winkeye
smiley - cool
(Can be your gramma is more complicated, yet are we who master the danish gramma a proud minority!)

Where are the beginners? Here is a lesson for them:

Adjectives.smiley - ok

Stor – big
Lille – small
Køn – pretty
Grim – ugly
Glad – happy
Gammel – old

Using the adjectives, we can make small sentenses. We just need the word "er", which is the present-time-form of the verb "at være" ("to be")

Notice that no matter who or what you are talking about, you'll have to use the form "er", as long as you want to talk in present time.

Common gender (the ones with the Indefinite articles"en"):

The car is old - Bilen er gammel
The dog is big – Hunden er stor

Neuter-gender (the ones with the Indefinite articles"et"). You'll have to add an –t to the adjektive, like this:

The house is old – Huset er gammelt
The table is big – Bordet er stort

Do you got the point, or is this totally nonsens?smiley - erm

Norberra, I admire your persistence. Keep it up. I think it is good that you introduce different elements in small doses.

Kat - From H2G2

jeg har været (bortrejst??). Bedrøvelig.

So...

Kat er lille.
Klaver er gammalt.

***
I have been away. Sorry.

The cat is small
The piano is old.

Those are probably wrong. Why don't you have to put "the" at the front?

On no "the" goes at the back of the word and I forgot and smiley - wah

Cat-Eyes: No..... why.... ?

Ok, I have just read the blog and stuff, but since it's 11pm I think I'll try some sentences in the morning... I have a couple of questions.

1) How do we tell if the word is common or ummm that other n-word? (which gender it is) Is it just something you learn?
2) Do the genders have any relation to male and female? If I was talking about a girl riding a bike compared to a boy riding a bike would the gender change and would the gender of 'girl' be the same as one of the genders and the gender of 'boy' be the same as one of the genders?

Ok, I'll leave it at that... You probably won't understand the second question... smiley - sorry

1) Well, we can't tell smiley - wah. Or at least: I don't know any rules, smiley - erm and I don't think there are any... you'll just have to learn.

And the n-word is neuter-gendersmiley - winkeye
2) No, there is no relation.

An eample:

En dreng - a boy
En pige - a girl

Same gender!smiley - smiley

jeg har været (bortrejst??).

This is right – good work!

Bedrøvelig

This is like an short version of "det er bedrøveligt/it's sad", so you have to ad an –t.

And you are right concerning your sentences. You have to add an ending to the nouns – try again, it's almost right!

Oh, now I understand! -You want to say: "I have been away. Sorry"!

I didn't see your translation before now!

Ok, then you still have got the first part right

Jeg har været bortrejst.

The word for "sorry" is "undskyld"

So you can say:

"Jeg har været bortrejst. Undskyld."

And then I will say:

"Du skal ikke sige undskyld. Det er godt at du er tilbage"

"You don't have to apologize. (literally "You shall not say sorry.") It's good that you are back"

_____________

Hello everybody,

I am also from Denmark (I'm from Denmark too).

I speak danish and will also like to teach. (I speak danish and would also like to teach). smiley - smiley

_____________

Pronounciation:

Hej (hi) is pronounced almost like "hi".

Jeg (I) is pronounced sort of like: y (as in 'yes'), a (as in 'are'), e (as in the letter 'e') = yae

is this understandable / do my fellow danish teachers agree?

I'm really sorry things are so slow. I can't seem to get new researchers or keep the ones we had. Also I'm going through a really rough patch right now (yes rougher than usual), so I haven't had much time to address the problem. I'm sorry about this. Obviously we can't keep going without learners, and I can't just rush around all the threads trying to learn six different languages at once. It stressed me out and I didn't learn anything properly.

Thewyrdsister - wellcome among the teachers smiley - winkeye

Your explanation of how to pronounce the words is dead on, I think smiley - biggrin. I tried to look in the mandarin thread and it works with English-language sounds. Well, I haven't actually tried it with a Mandarin-speaking chinese.smiley - laugh

Kat - please do not get stressed. It is not your responsibillity all alone.

We teachers could keep the thread alive posting now an again as if we are co-writing a parleur. Then each of us will remember the thread and could ask around as well.

We have a few non-Scandinavian speakers in the Nordic Researchers thread - and they could be the first to ask.
