For those who don't speak Danish and would like to....oh and the teachers!

You can count me in as a teacher. Or, maybe, as a temp - since lots of time around here is not one of my strongest point.
Qualifications: A Danish keyboard including æ, ø and å in all the right places. Oh, and 28 years and 'some months' as a Dane...

Oooh great!! Would you be willing to be the head of the department too then? It doesnt mean much, just that you have to keep an eye on what's going on, be responsible for yikesing anything odd, and of course teach.

Hmmmm - no thanks. It's the "keeping an eye on things" that's the problem. Too little time to feel that I do a proper thingy...

Oh don't worry about it too much! I'll be the one keeping the main eye on everything! I keep an eye on all the departments, all the threads, and check to see whether researchers are around much or not. You're up for teaching things though? I think some people should be making their way here eventually.

Can I make a request for what to learn? Greetings? I love being able to say hi and bye and stuff in multiple languages...

Oh, also, just as a tip, try and put in pronunciation as well. Like, it might be spelt 'ballet' but is said 'bal-ay 'bal' as in balance, 'ay' as in pay' But presumably you'll be saying Danish stuff...

Goddag,[litterally (I wish you a)'good/nice day', equivalent to 'how do you do']
dav(s) [litterally 'day' in dialect, equivalent to 'hello'],
hej [hi (used both as hello and good bye or even hej-hej as good bye/see you)] -
'hej' is the most common greeting now - even for older people.
I'll join as a temp teacher as well.
Being Danish and all.
But like Santra I sometimes am very busy in real life.
På gensyn [litterally 'on resight' equivalent to 'see you' (again)]

> vi ses
> ( = we see [each other] )
actually: we are being seen - or something like that.
it's the passive form of the verb
nemlig! lige præcis!
(= precisely)

So...to set you up with teaching...
here's a good example from the German dept of a lesson...of course you dont have to do it that way at all...but seeing as some of us don't know any Danish at all it might be good to take a look...

And here in our much *cough*loved*cough* Mandarin department, is an example of explaining pheonetic spelling (cause pronouncing pinyin is very hard so explaining it has to be pretty full on in the mandarin which is why I'm using it as an example and not, for instance, french or anything. (Also cause I like advertising mandarin

Dit danske er for kompliceret til mig.
Mange tak.

Your Danish is too complicated for me
Many thanks
So it's not an essay on the social repurcussions of the Euro, but still....
Can we start with various greetings, and talking about yourself?
You know, My name is..., I am 17 years old, I live in England...
Tak
Kath

Not quite sure if this is against the intention of the language thing, but have a look at http://www.speakdanish.dk (they have audio examples, which is a very useful thing for Danish!)

I think the only problem with all of this so far is that we don't know how to pronounce any of it.
