A Conversation for Tibet - Why the Chinese are There
Dalai Lama is a tool used by western world
twisted14 Posted Apr 19, 2008
The non-speaking English country people could get at least one more standpoint about one thing because of the different culture to recognize it.
So stop your arrogancy. They may know more than you .

Yes, I shall, when you stop beating around the bush and throwing red herrings around.
Restrict yourselves about the title: Dalai Lama is a tool used by western world. There are other Tibet oriented boards in H2G2 for other items.
Thank you.

Yikes, that looks scary!
Beating around the bush with a red herring is something the Knights who say "Ni" would probably get excited about.

The Torch was welcomed by majority of the people
li2008 Posted May 4, 2008
1. If you go to youtube, you will see videos of many many people welcoming the torch. Media was biased. When they saw 1000 people welcome the torch and 10 people protest, they always focused on the 10 people and ignored the 1000.
2. When you say the world, what you should mean is people all over the world, not just the 900 million people in the west. Moreover, many people in the west also welcome the torch.
3. On the Tibetan issue, Chinese people are much more informed than westerners. Don't be fooled by CNN, which wants to think that it is revealing information to uninformed Chinese people. The reality is exactly the opposite. What the media says is not only different from what the Chinese government says, but also different from what serious western scholar says.

i think i need to tell you here "CNN" just is a generic, means lots of west mainstream medias who reported unobjective and unjustice.

This is a hopeless battle. When they have no arguments to make, the chinese just point their fingers at anything western. And there are over 10,000 million fingers for us to contend with. And this is just a form of the old maoist chinese trick, the human wave attack. It was used against Tibet, and then against India. One wonders who's next.

majortso Posted May 5, 2008
I completely agree, something needs to be changed.
The west has great respect for Chinese history and culture, and if we have passed comments that could be interpreted by the chinese as intemperate, it it because of our frustration in dealing with the misdeeds of a government that is brutal, bullying, trampling on people and countries.
The impact of this attitude on the chinese people is obvious, and is plainly there to be seen in the case of the unfortunate chinese student in the US who was trying to make peace between pro and anti chinese demonstrators, and the pro-chinese turned against her. This rabid nationalism is uncivilised. One does not have to be rabid to be a patriot.
It should be obvious what needs to be changed. It is the government of china, and the attitude of the chinese people (it is not their fault, they have been bludgeoned with propaganda into believing whatever they are told).

xianfansean Posted May 7, 2008
i agree with you.
nowadays, the rabid nationalist who never respect different opinions are everywhere in China. I always be told that i have betray my country when i question their behaviour However,it is not their fault, because many Chinese people have lived under this system for so many years without knowing democracy and humen concept.
i know to some extent China just like a big island in the ocean of democracy countries.i think the condition of humen right in China will be improved as the time goes by and i have been improved a lot compareing 10years or 20 years ago.
Please give our Chinese people time.

We in the west do sympathise with the chinese people whose basic rights have been trampled for nearly six decades. However, it is they who should wage a freedom struggle againt the communist colonisers. There is a high prize to be paid, but it should be worth it.
Poverty is the opiate ofr communism, as recent voting in Nepal, and the voting over the years in two dismal Indian states that keep reelecting them. However, as it happened in USSR, and the East European communist countries, once the hunger is satisfied, people will rise to get their freedom back. We should not expect china to be aby different.
>Please give our Chinese people time.
Yes, but what about the hapless non-chinese in china, like the Tibetans and Uighurs whose rights have been stolen? This is 21st century, and the days of colonialism has been dead for decades, except in china.

HonestIago Posted May 7, 2008
Hmm, I disagree with you a bit there majortso. There's nothing wrong with communism per se, so long as it's the stated will of the people.
I understand that the states in India (Calcutta is one of them, isn't it?) which elect communist state legislators do so of their own free will, and do so because the communists actually have a good track record. Similarly, there's no doubting that the Nepalese communists are in power because people wanted them.
Cyprus just recently elected a communist president, the first time ever in a EU nation, but there's no doubting this guy seems intent on doing good things - he's already made significant progress on reuniting the island and - and there's no question of him withdrawing from the EU or euro.
While he won with a plurality of voters, rather than an absolute majority, more people wanted him than the other 2 candidates. People expressed their desires and we have to respect that.
We do, the CCP doesn't. That's what makes them illegitimate as a government.
