I've re-read the House Rules:
----------
J'ai re-relu les règles:
A516034
Postings or entries containing languages other than English may be removed.
Because we have to ensure we understand a Posting or Guide Entry in case of problems, languages other than English may have to be removed. It's also polite when posting to a Conversation to stick to the same language as the other Postings in that Conversation; posting something in a different language halfway through is not very constructive.
I think we will have to form a comity of some people before proposing it to the editors, I think we could receive a No as an answer. If we propose to correct and verify for ourselves those entries, maybe they would be more interest to say yes. Anyone want to create a french comity with me?
I'll create a page with what the native french, quebecers and french speaking wants, trying to take volunteer to correct, verify entries for they not break house rules.
---------------
However, I do not plan to take the conversations to french... That would be too much trouble for us and the editors.
--------------

Here: A41003173
Please native french speakers, non-native french speakers and everybody else have a look.
If I made any mistakes, I would gladly know, since we will try to submit that to the Editors.

I don't think we have a hope in if we don't translate whatever we write, but they might accept translation sof each other's pieces. We'd have to ask.

Thanks! fixed.
I'll be back sunday.
I read an interesting proposition to speak with "our BBC" Radio-Canada for a partnership or a h2g2 sister site, I'll see what I can do: I'll write a nice letter to them.

One thought - why just French? There must be enough speakers of other languages round about to open this up to many more languages.
Although, I don't think the italics will say yes to the proposal, as if they don't speak the language they will have no way of knowing whether the committee are doing their job right. Good luck though!

I've not really followed the whole conversation but I'd like you to know:
The Language thing has a kind of special permission to use languages other than English. If you write other languages in other threads and an Italic sees it the post usually is removed... well, not it it's a single word maybe and they may accept a sentence or so if it's translated, but: I've been yiksed often enough myself.

This is obviously more far-reaching than is immediately clear. Surely, if we play our cards right, it should be possible to do what we want here? In fact, this was what I hoped for when I signed up.
It would be fun to see the same text rewritten in whatever lingo came to mind/hand/keyboard! But we ight have to ask for more trimmings like accents, umlauts etc?

******
Hi Dig - we can certainly write in French here, as long as we put in a translation, and that is what usually happens. I find that if I type the text in Word first, I can then cut & paste everything, including accents.

What a great idea! But I've just astonished myself..I opened Character Map, whose French name I don't know, and behold!! The accents appear! Why, I ask myself (Crikey, what appalling French!) haven't I tried it before????????

Evening all! I haven’t been around here for a while. But now I’m too tired to type in French (what with the accents and all that) … I’m off to bed.
