A Conversation for 'Bergerac' - the TV Series

We loved him too . . .

Don't think you Brits had Bergerac all to yourselves. . . how clearly I remember spending evenings of my early Australian adolescence watching Bergerac (admittedly, it was because I lived in some remote part where we only got one TV channel, so the opportunities to go channel-surfing were fairly limited).

And sure, Charlie Hungerford was a rather dandy chap, but I distinctly remember the (hideous) 80's fashions that the female members of the cast wore. I can't remember any of their names, of course, because I'm getting old and forgetful, but I was in awe. (I may have even thought that they were fashionable, but then again, I was (as I previously mentioned) living in a remote area)

The Wisest Fool

In genre terms, Diamond Lil was the Huggy Bear of the St.Helier underworld.
Bergerac has fond memories for me as it was on TV when I was first at college. One of my flatmates was from Jersey and delighted in pointing out that when JB's vintage convertible rounded a corner on one part of the island it teleported to another road several miles away.
Another much missed brit-detective series is "Shoestring", with the crime-solving DJ Eddie Shoestring plodding the villainy-soaked turf of Bristol.
Of course, both detectives pale against the incomporable "Monkfish" played with vital panache by John Actor.

Siege

Oh *please*! Listen to yourselves, going into raptures over Bergerac. I can just picture you both with a starry, faraway look in your eyes as you wistfully type, absent-mindedly dreaming of fonder days.

Get hold of yourselves. Bergerac is gone. Let the past go.

I call it flagrant disregard for any sense of geography.

Humph, let's go through the tunnel and...oh look, there's St Ouen's bay. Or, mmm, Mont Orgueil...let's go up that hill and we're at Greve au Lanchon. Oh dear...smiley - winkeye
