TRiG (Ireland) A dog, so bade in office

I was walking in the woods today -- yes, those woods! -- following a path I knew well. I walked past the abandoned sheep dip where we'd had picnics as kids and where we'd had late-night bonfires as teenagers (annoying no one, and leaving no litter). And then I kept going a little longer, following the river. I've been there before, but not recently.

I was alone. Utterly alone. The nearest road is a quiet one. And isn't that near anyway.

So, walking down the narrow strip of woodland between the field and the river, I came to a small clearing. The floor was carpeted with golden beach leaves. The river flowed full, but almost noiseless below me, in a curve around the area. The trees were not yet quite bare.

And, as I contemplated this miniature cathedral, and wished for the equipment and the skill to record it, a heron flew up from the river beyond me.

It's been mild for the last few days. Later, in a different part of the woods, near the old triangular folley, I found and ate three blackberries, holding out against the frost we had before. Tastey.

It was almost dark by the time I got home, but I was well onto a known route by then, walking down through the sheep fields.

Sounds lovely ... a camera probably couldn't do it justice.

Almost reminds me of the mood in 'Stopping by Woods on a Snowy Evening' by Robert Frost.

There is only one thing worse than being Gosho, and that is not being Gosho

Sometimes a picture *doesn't* paint a thousand words.

There are some fields a few hundred yards from where I live. I happen to drive along the road just about at dawn and as the sun comes up the light filters through the trees on the far side of the fields. Occasionally in October and November there can be a layer of mist across the field illuminated by the filtered light which gives a reddish/golden glow. It is so beautiful that I’ve stopped just to look and a year or so ago I kept a camera in the car just in case I could capture it.

One morning I did. I also got a tree with autumn coloured leaves that was shining like a golden beacon. Sadly the results on film did absolutely nothing for the rear thing.

I used to take a lot of pictures when I lived in east London until my camera was half-inched smiley - sadface

I'd cycle around the Isle of Dogs, Limehouse and Wapping, taking pictures of the river, and the old warehouses just a few years before Docklands was redeveloped and turned into Thatcher's vision of London in the 80s. Some of them kind of do justice to the actual location because you can frame a photograph in a way that you can't frame a view, and after a while you forget what was outside the frame. But for the most part a photograph can't capture a view the way that you see it when you're there. Like that shot I took looking west along the Thames from Narrow Street at the entrance to Limehouse Basin with the sun starting to set smiley - bigeyes
