Here is what you should do - you find a nice big etnic conflict like Balkan or the Israel/palestine business. then pretend that that is really what is bothering you, you will still be depressed, but it will fell fare more constuctive now, like you are aktually doing something importent - by being the conscience of the world. and may be you could find a solution to your chosen conflict in the proces, that would be just perfect.

It is me again.
If it does not work buy a cat - if you have a cat then look at it and learn!
My first post was a bit silly, but it has some things right. when I fell depressed I can not help felling that I am being sellfish, my problems are so small compared with things like war and hunger, but that does not make them a bit less frustrating and complexs for me.it just makes me depressed and ashamed at the samme time and THAT is depressing. so I have this tendency to blow up my depression to cover all of mankind, (to make it more "legal" to feel this way I guess) it is silly and naiv and I do not feel that good about it, but I must say it has a nice placibo effect.
I have my home in the northen hemispher where depressions are an obligatory part of the turning of the year. it is going to set in soon, I can feel it come. but I know it is going to pas as well, and really they must be good for something, on som subconscience level you propably get to work something out that really was needed.
I hope you will fell better soon. . I realise that I have not been to much help but I want you to now that you are not alone.
If you find a new revolutioning way to beat a the depression pleace share it with me I really need it.

I´ll reply to myself. What if you got no electricity and your alone? Sorry , you´re gonna have to ask someone else. Don´t compare yourself, it doesn´t make things any better. I suppose I believe you should just wallow in it. Try and enjoy it in some masochistic sort of way, the way you do when something good is happening to you and you don´t know how long it will last.

It takes some time (about one year) to learn it, but I did: avoid it. Whenever you feel it is starting, avoid it. Work against it. Not by doing other things, but by concentrating on avoiding it.
I visualize it that way: I picture myself hanging over quicksand. I know as soon as I put a foot in I'll be drawn further and further down, the more I struggle, the worse it is. So I avoid to even put in a little toe.
And it works! The good thing is: once you learn to avoid it that way, it never ever happens to you again.

Suicide is terribly final, and is basically saying that there is no hope for change. But all things change, so suicide is one moment of fatal shortsightedness with long-term consequences.
Don't be afraid to ask for help from friends, family, clergy, or professionals if need be. There are answers out there, good ones that help you grow beyond the current darkness.
I know, I speak from firsthand experience.
Take care,

Just stop wallowing in self absorbed pity?
Seriously though, long dark winters cause depression. The key to this is the decrease in exposure to natural sunlight. Turn up the heater, put on some bright lights, mayber even a sunlamp(protect yourself from excessive uv rays), play some upbeat music and dance. Lie on a brightly coloured beach towel. Eat tropical fruit and sip fruit punch. (you are at the beach...the sky is a brilliant azure blue...it's a lovely hot day and there's a gentle rolling surf... etc. etc.)
Forget the icecream, it will make you fat pimply and unhappy in the long term. Eat very moderate amounts of dark chocolate.
Follow this winter anti-depression program 2 hours every night every night and by spring/ summer you will be suntanned, slim and vivacious when everyone else is plump, pimply and sluggish.

Think of all the people in worse positions, either socially, economicly, their lack of taste in clothing, mates, etc. When all else fails, find some one you like and respect, who also likes you and having sex. I know, sex seems to be the answer to all the questions or troubles men have. I say, 'Hey, it couldn't hurt'

Hi sweetie pie. This might light a fire, but here's my advice.
Take a close look at your music collection.
Throw out anything melancholic. If you DO own anything by the Cure,
don't just throw it out, jump up and down on it.
Indeed, if you DON'T own anything by the Cure, why not buy one of their
earliest tapes? (try Oxfam) THEN jump up and down on it.
Sure, it's a waste of 50p, but I guarantee you'll feel FANTASTIC!
Then, go out and buy ANYTHING by the prodigy, beastie boys or something with more beats
maybe the Chemical Brothers. Ever since discovering decent dance music
my whole life completely took off! i never even realised I could dance!
big love. xxxx

depression is a fatal disease, it can kill you, just like any other, and you have to fight it, not give into it.
don't overindulge, keep fit, healthy, think happy thoughts, sing and listen to upbeat songs, do something constructive and find out whats getting you down, and change it,
just some personal advise, I wasn't happy for a long long time. but I am now, although not entirly through this advise.

BAHAHAHAHA I love it.
Conversely *I* feel better when I listen to really gloomy, tragic stuff. %) I put _Misplaced Childhood_ by Marillion on the stereo and listen to Fish expunge his tortured soul for 45 minutes. I feel better -- at least I don't feel as bad as FISH apparently did.
DO NOT DESTROY YOUR OLD CURE. Just cuz Bloodflowers is bleak, well, there's "Lovecats." And um. Well, there's "Lovecats."
On second thought, have a friend keep your Cure CD's.
:X

In an ideal world an external solution would be enough, and this question would not need to be asked as much as it is. I have often asked this question, and got different answers every time, with different levels of success. The key issue here is that for some people they can work, but for others they most definitely do not.
For example, I tried listening to bright and happy upbeat music, but came away feeling as though someone was trying to stop a fatal open wound with ice cream, and I felt patronised, and consequently depressed, by the experience. No one person can realistically expect to be able to tell you what measures would work to release you from your suffering without knowing who you are, where you're from and what you want from life, but most importantly what it was that gave you these feeilings in the first place.

The best cure for depression is cheese. it is the most rediculosly stupid thing in the universe. buy some and look at it, repeat to yourself after exactly 13minutes of intense cheese oriented concentration, "I'm glad I'm not a piece of cheese". When the enormitiy of the relaisation that you are not actually a piece of cheese hits you in the face like a spade, you will feel so much better. Then make yourself a nice cup of tea and sit down in front of the television. do not watch cricket. or golf.

Finding someone your respect and having sex with them doesn't work when lack of sex is the cause of your depression. If it were that easy, I wouldn't be depressed.

Prozac shouldn't be on that list. Trust me. It just makes matters worse, as do all the drugs in that category, namely SSRI's. This stands for Selective Serotonin RE-uptake Inhibitors, and they all make you much worse than you would have been if you'd never gone near them. I've been there, and it's rubbish.

Why not? You can have sex with yourself. Make it a real show, with candles and champain. And maybe a mirror. Just add a little bit of phantasy and off you go.
