Where to begin..
I hate how populist it is.
I hate how its title has been abbreviated* *henceforth referred to as 'this dance drivel'.
I hate the presenters (judges) on it; poncy, over-acting eejits, with stupid poncy names.
I hate the music danced to; a personal one this; just not my bag, any of it.
I hate the theme tune. The same refrain, over and over and over and over and over again
I hate the idiotic audience clapping along idiotically to anything with a beat.
I hate the idiotic audience.
I hate how presenters on The One Show talk as if all their viewers are automatically viewers of this dance drivel, just because they've been on it.
I hate how the set is of the same style that Saturday night light entertainment have been using for decades. jeese, do something original other than flashy lights and stairs.
Mostly, I hate how my wife loves the show and the audio pollution from it permeates the house for hours every week.
This actually makes me angry. Can you tell ?

It *is* DWTS. It even shares two of the same judges...

I don't hate it because it's just not significant enough for me to hate. I don't like it either, but some of the pro dancers are pretty worthy.

Fairy nuff; substitute 'hate' for 'dislike'. I hate the word hate, but after trying to dodge the sound of the bluddy show for hours, 'hate' was the word I felt best described the way I felt!

So why do you watch it?

If my husband watched something I'm not interested in (e.g. football - on really loud and involves yelling and jumping around on his part) - I demonstratively plug in my earphones and watch QI on youtube or take the laptop to bed with a DVD of my choice.

I've never seen the programme, but I still manage to hate it, purely because of the title. "Strictly Come Dancing". THAT DOESN'T MEAN ANYTHING. It's a meaningless string of words, and whoever thought of it should be thrown to the piranhas. Twice.

I don't watch it TC, but in a flat, TV sound travels, especially screeching audience caterwauls and of course gone are the days when a program was on for an hour and you could just do something else till iit was finished. Now, these 'popular' light entertainment programs get blanket broadcast coverage for hours over a weekend+ trailers throughout the week and being mentioned on other BBC shows such as the One show.

I do put on headphones sometimes.. it is a solution, but again the bluddy show is on so much there's only so much music I can listen to on cans.
If it was up to me I'd rip the tuner out of the TV, save on the TV license ands only ever watch DVD's and catch-up TV, but hey marriage=compromise and all that..

I find elements of it appealing - I like the dancing when it's good - but I found music choices and all the chatter in between dances quite distracting.

I've watched it twice so far (ever). I wouldn't say I'd never watch it again, but not particularly by choice. Perhaps if they released a stripped-down version with just the dances and the judging I'd be more interested?

To be honest, quite a few of the outfits are essentially naked. I did mean taking out all the unnecessary chatting and hype, rather than the clothes.

Hygenic Dispenser, the name comes from an amalgam of an old TV dance show called "Come Dancing", presented late at nights by Terry Wogan, and featuring real people rather than "slebs". Plus a film called "Strictly Ballroom" about those kinds of dance contests and the shenanigans that go on backstage, and the debates about what is or isn't allowed in dance contests.

The version we have now has evolved, largely guided by ratings (as I keep saying, it's a TV show, they're not really looking for the best dancer, or who's improved the most etc, they just want viewers.)

I believe they do sell on some of the costumes - I'm after Karen's tartan ballgown that she was wearing while tangoing with Dave Myers to 500 miles.......

Oh, I know where the name comes from. But "Come Dancing" means something - it's an invitation. "Strictly Ballroom" means something - it's an instruction (I believe it was to be found on notices in Australian dance halls). "Strictly Come Dancing" is just gibberish.

Alternatively, hd, you can take the name in the spirit in which it is most likely intended; as a lighthearted nonsense making fun of the fact that the programme is not *strictly* Come Dancing.

Pfft - I wish this were possible. If I dare to suggest watching a history documentary, a science show or something *I* actually like it's like watching it with a bored child in the room. Yet I am expected to be quiet and watch Coronation enders endlessly
I have managed to train her up to watch the footie occasionally though.

Thankfully my beloved other half hates the celebrity driven drivel of this thread's subject as much as I. No way would I stay in the same room as it.
We had one season of X-factor when I refused to watch it solo but fortunately she managed to learn that it's purest white (my lord) the season after so we're both off that now. Phew. It took us both too long to learn that however.

The trouble with TV scheduling on Saturday's now is that it panders ENTIRELY to this rubbish. If you don't like the reality Britain's Got the Pop Factor... and Possibly a New Celebrity Jesus Christ Soapstar Superstar Strictly on Ice crap then you have nowt to watch on the main TV channels for about 17 hours on the weekend. Drives me nuts too.

Couldn't agree with your post more Orcas. Where's that 'like' button?! I think that's what annoys me most; the complete lack of choice (from live TV anyway) on a Saturday. It's like the schedulers assume the IQ of viewers on a Saturday night is about a quarter that of those on other nights

Saturday evenings being devoted to light entertainment... who'da thunk it.

There are many varieties of light entertainment that are perfectly palatable. It's the variety aspect that seems to have evaporated. These shows are all basically exactly the same.

Please no actual Variety Shows though - can't bear 'em - not like The Good Old Days
