I'm trying to spam every other website on the internet to try and get some of the members that've forgotten hootoo back. Please help, it's just a few minutes of copying and pasting into different websites

You might want to post this in Ask (but please use a different subject line so we can tell the threads apart).

It may be that I've suddenly developed an inferiority complex, but, as a relative "newbie", I feel that my contributions aren't appreciated anymore....

I didn't mean to make new users unhappy, it's nothing to do with new users being 'inferior' (I don't think that) and I'm sorry if I gave that impression .
I'm just saying that when you go to the different groups here, they're mostly sleeping and it's depressing. I think that most of the people that were here when I signed up are gone and no one's making new groups any more.

I always thought that this ought to be the natural home for sane and reasonably mature correspondence on the net but honestly, when you look at the conversation lists most them are pretty banal and often downright silly. It does seem to me that H2G2 has been highjacked by a clique who have been around for years who have nothing much to say, but feel they have to chip in on every conversation. This is a shame as it is a well moderated site which anyone can access with confidence and know they won't be bombarded with offensive stuff. No offence at all to the few site users who I have enjoyed corresponding or sparring with over the past few years, but I haven't felt like getting involved for some time, I look in occasionaly and it's the same old nonsense being churned out. Anyways, at least it's good to see that the question of decreasing usage is being asked, and the re-vamp looks like an improvement too. We'll see.

I've been here 7 years and there's always been banal and silly alongside interesting conversation. I like it because sometimes I need recreation rather than challenging discourse.
I can't really comment on what you are saying because I don't know if I'm part of the hijacking clique, or someone who you might have enjoyed sparring with . But I do think that the site has a bigger range of things that people like when there are more people here. Pretty simple really.

No Kea, never had the pleasure, hey I'm not saying that people should be in deep philosophical mode all the time but honestly when people are saying little more than they've just had a bag of crisps and posting a dozen or so smileys, it makes Twitter look like the Brains Trust! (that dates me I guess!) Look, the proof of the pudding and all that, people aren't using the site for a reason. The Guide entries etc are doing much the same as Wikipedia as far as I can see, I did one once and I couldn't see the point of 'peer review', whatever that is, and didn't bother any more, perhaps there are other sites out there that reflect the interests of a reasonably sensible membership better, I just kind of think that as a loyal BBC type of person all of my life this is a half decent resource and people should make good use of it or it will go. At the moment it wouldn't be any loss to anyone.

The EG entries are quite different than wiki though (editorial policy is different for a start). PR is there to tidy up entries before they get selected.
In terms of Serious threads, no doubt about it there is less debate here than in the past, simply because there's less people. I find that if I want such a thread it's always good to start one and then keep it going.
I don't really see that many people posting about bags of crisps, but as someone who needs the light fun threads at the moment (and I've been a debate heavy weight at other times) it doesn't look too out of balance to me.
Apparently Myfacetwit has stolen alot of people. But you can't do there what you can do here so I think part of the solution is to focus on what's unique about the place rather than trying to compete with Facetwit.

Try Misc Chat, "A question about suicicde".
If that isn't a serious discussion, I don't know what is.
