over the last few years, major events of nature or man made have captured the worlds attention. BUT! the events in Chile with the trapped miners and how the mining company/government and everyone involved has come together in coordinating the rescue plan and putting it in to action and the outcome of lives saved.

Let the world in general take note! Wars! Terrorism! and Conflict! achieve nothing - cooperation WORKS! link arms for a change NOT fire them!

Yes, must admit to have been glued to the media for this, fantastic effort by all involved, real sense of community spirit on a global scale.

I don't see the need to dissect every aspect of the 7/7 bombings in such detail. There is no doubt people made mistakes, but they were faced with things that no drill or scenario can prepare you for fully.

I'm going to be a voice of doom here I'm afraid and I dont wish to take ANYTHING from the miners or their rescuers but...

... This was a pretty much avoidable accident from what I've heard, mainly caused by lack of decent H&S awareness and direction. It's not worth the money. Until something goes wrong.

In the west we might well bemoan too much health n safety, I'm fairly sure that Chileans among others would gladly jump through a few hoops for this not to have happened nor for it to have been so catastrophic. If only a few corners hadn't been cut and their safety had been important.

On the plus side, I completely agree that when we need to, people do pull together pretty well. Mostly smiley - smiley
