with no disrespect to anyone but as soon as Britain gets a little snow and the country grinds to a halt, most people don't realise that Professional workers ie: nurses, police, fire brigade, prison service and many others STILL have to get through to do they're jobs - I have the utmost respect for these people. I was a tv engineer in the 70's and these winters were fairly common thensmiley - sadfacebut I still had to get to customers homes to repair their sets.
Please give thought to these dedicated workers and wish them safe journeys to and from they're place of work

Thanks folks

the biggest problem i see these days is the way we live

we used to live on streets and roads that went from one place to another, so snow ploughs and gritters could clear the snow.....eventually

now every new estate is a maze of cul-de-sac s so the gritters ploughs can't clear them due to no turning space

so all the roads are clear, its just people can't get from their drive to the main roadsmiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laughsmiley - laugh

and most estates have sleeping policemen as well, so ploughs can't drive through

problem is, that many of today's drivers have never driven in these conditions before (for experience) and think they are GOOD drivers (covering all ages)watch the insurance companies slam the premiums up now

Which is weird for me. I wasn't driving in the snow we used to get when I was eight or nine (couldn't get anything up the hill we lived on, which was in the city etc.) but I paid enough attention to see what doesn#t work.

I just dont understand why people cant put the logic together - if the floor is slippery, you need to keep your balance and grip right? even if you're just walking! You'll probably walk slower and more cautiously and are unlikely to go running around and changing direction suddenly and slamming into people.

So why when people get in cars do they think the ice has either suddenly gone away or suddenly has different properties?
