GuideML has a macron symbol, but it's not one you can actually combine with a letter - it stands on its own. Also, it's only for GuideML - it doesn't work in forums. One thing you could consider is using acute accents to denote a macron: áéíóú, which you can get to quickly by pressing AltGr+aeiou on a Windows QWERTY keyboard

Ah, that would work!
So the transliteration of "Tokyo" would be "Tókyó"... I think that might work.
So, now all I need is a teacher!

Hey evil-tiger-lily, good to see you here Echo's a good Latin teacher, whereas if enough people are interested in Madarin learning... Well, things are pretty quiet there, but I'm sure lazy me could muster up a tutorial for pin yin on vacation. Maybe.
Hi Roadkill, glad to meet you.

Jeez, talk about coincidence... I'm off to Florence this Saturday night for a 4-week Italian course!
Don't think I'll be in a teaching level when I get back, but if you found someone to teach you and would like to practice, that'd be neat.

Italian! I'd love to learn Italian, I'm looking at university courses that include it.
Unfortunately there doesn't seem to be anyone else here (apart from Lady Pennywhistle ) who speaks any Italian, but if we can find some people who are interested then that would be great!
The French department is at A2658684 - that page explains how everything works Bienvenue!

Anything else we need to know:
To be absolutely clear (in case I misunderstood something): My first language is Norwegian, my second English, my third French. I wish I knew some German as well, in fact I'm planning to go to Austria next year. That might help.

Hi Miranda
No-one speaks Norwegian around here, unfortunately Although, we're always open to new ideas, so if there are people who'd like to give it a go, we can always get something going!
The German department is, on the other hand, one of the thriving parts And there are places for speaking English and French too - all the links are on the front page. Feel free to explore, talk wherever you like, and have fun!

Hi there!
Sorry for not returning to you in a while, the thread kinda got lost in backlog...
Anyway, I was thinking of opening a thread for practising Italian, if anyone would like to join into one... I don't think I know enough to teach, but I would love to practise now and then.
Joe, did you find Italian courses at your Uni? I'm going to be taking one, so a practise thread could be a good place to work on it!
So whtcha say?

I'm not going to Uni just yet, but I'll be having occasional lessons every couple of weeks from now on, hopefully. But yes, that sounds great! Give me a bit of time to put something together; I think, without someone who's fluent, it's probably not a good idea to give it a whole new section just yet. What sort of level are you at?

Ah, I'm just beginner... I had zero Italian before my course, but I can actually make (simple) conversation now.
That's why I thoght it'd be best to just make a thread, not open a department yet. We could try talking there, and see how it goes.
But maybe we should wait until you start your lessons?

Try a thread on this main page entitled "The Language Thing- Italian Thread". I'll see if we have anyone who speaks Italian or if I can find anyone and we can go from there
Sorry I haven't been around much recently at all
