My Dad's younger brother died yesterday
He was a lovely man, with a great generosity of spirit and kindness of heart that he shared with Dad and Grandpa. I have nothing but good memories of him.
In a way his death is a release. He had Alzheimers for the last five or six years and was gradually leaving his family as time passed. In the event it was a cerebral aneurysm that ended his life: not a bad way to die in the scheme of things. Swift and no coming back.
But I shall miss him. He's one of those people who have always been there. One of the few who knew me by my first (initial) name. Somebody who would take the time to give me support and advice when I needed it; who took me out for uncle/neice dinners with oodles of fine wine and who lived life with a capital L.
Damn...

At least he lived before he died. So many people don't manage that.
I never really know what to say at moments like this.

Very sad for your loss Frenchbean, but as you will know with Alzheimer's you have already lost them in varying degrees. You are so right, swift and no coming back is the kindest thing for sufferers and their families, even though it is still a shock and difficult to handle.
Remember and dwell on the good memories, you were lucky to have him as such a big part of your life.

Thank you all.
I spoke to Mum last night and she's stoical but wobbly. It reminded her of Dad's death, as it did me. So we had a wee weep over the phone at each other - and talked about the special bond that brothers have. Then we talked about Life.
Sadly she's too infirm to go to the funeral, but one or two of my brothers will be there I'm sure.
