There are many academic references to the h2g2 community, and a quick search of an academic search engine will give many. I'm taking a break from my OU so I can't run one for you right now - you may find something on Google Scholar though, or just through a Google search.

We've had researchers who have written them too - notably Mrs Zen recently, who wrote about it for her doctorate.
