I got the wrong score, as I tried to calculate the score myself (not very good at maths) but I have done it again clicking on the box at the bottom and got 40.

I scored 26; but this is 'coz I had a lot of slightly agreeing and slightly disagreeing, rather than strong feelings either way. I wonder how much one's score would change if a friend put in their opinions about oneself

I scored ten. Some of those questions are quite hard to answer because they depend a lot on the specific situation.

I scored twenty. Not sure what that says about me You need to read the questions very carefully.

It would be very interesting BigAl. I had a few slightly agreeing and slightly disagreeing moments too. I have friends who are autistic so i found it of particular interest.

It's a test for aspergers...although it's not definitive...I scored high and am very likely to have it. I had to re-read the beginning to get to the answer.

Opti, the maximum score on that test is 50, the way the scoring system is described. How could you have scored 62?

interesting opti - I usually score between 32 and 38 on versions of that test - I find they change depending on current mood and recent experiences. Worth bearing in mind that the test itself as developed by Baron-Cohen was reasonable specific in its intended audience and merely highlights autistic spectrum traits, just scoring high doesn;t mean you have AS, could any one of number of ASDs. All such diagnosis are also a lot more difficult in adults than children.
BTW, if you are AS are you aware of how rare that is? Male indcidence is 3 to 4 times higher than female and even that is only 1 in 10,000.
Oh, and I was gonna say hello to you at the meet but you legged it before I had a chance!

I guess Lil but it may be worth finding out whether I definitely have it or not.
Sorry Ictoan if I had a I would have definitely stayed longer. I would have to meet you, minicheesemouse, Icy and others but I don't visit London that much so don't know my way round (especially in the dark) and had to get back to look after my sister and start work the next day.
So do you have it Ictoan?
No I didn't realise that it was rare among women ...wish the doctor would get back to me about this

The NAS has a good bit on adult asperger's diagnosis and how best to go about it:
http://www.nas.org.uk/nas/jsp/polopoly.jsp?d=1045&a=3341
(sorry if covering old ground!)
Do I have it? Hmmm, now there is a question! I dunno. I've been trying to work it out for about 4yrs now. In some ways it would explain a lot of things in my past (and how I am now). On the other hand some of the characteristics are only marginal in me and it feels a bit like looking for an excuse to make stuff not my fault. This is why it is hard to diagnose in adults as anyone who is independent to any degree and copes in adult society will have developed coping mechanisms which will hide or obscure some of the AS traits. This is why you need someone experienced with adults ASDs and qualified to diagnose. I've had a secondary diagnosis that I probably am (i.e. diagnosis in absentia by someone qualified, but then I wasn;t there so...).
Sometimes I do think of going to be checked. Then I think 'I made it this far, cant be that much wrong with me'.
I guess either way around the outcome is the same. There's no magic pill, no fix or cure. The best that can be hoped for is better self knowledge and perhaps a support network. Then again I have family and friends if I need them. Plus many years of introspection.
All you can do is develop coping mechanisms to deal with various stressful situations and learn what is and isn't good for you. Whether that is done on oyur own/with family and friends or done through medical diagnosis is a question that only you can answer. One of the key issues, I think, is depression which goes hand in hand with AS and many other high functioning ASDs. It's the one symptom I think that is really dangerous. And understanding yourself better and why you act how you act, learning to accept that can relieve the depression.
I suppose I look at it as 'why do I want the diagnosis? And what happens if they say I am not?' And currently the answer to both is 'not sure' for me. I've taken on board certain things I do and ways I react and learned to deal/live with them. Wouldn't want to be an NT (neurotypical!) anyway, far too common and boring
Not saying how *you* should react, there is little more personal than ones own personality and mental makeup! But just thought I'd expand on how I look at it in case that is of interest
