Opticalillusion- media mynx life would be boring without hiccups

It seems you can't get anywhere these days if you haven't got experience in something and just getting experience can be difficult. Then there's studying for more qualifications but at the end of the day those don't guarantee you a job. There are so many qualifications to do too, how do you know whether you should do one or the other or none at all? I feel that the saying 'you get out what you put in' doesn't always happen and correct me if I'm wrong but it seems people don't like to invest and train their staff anymore. Furthermore, they don't like to give feedback, leaving people not knowing where to improve and how.

Any advice would be good smiley - ta

Oh, this confused me, Malabarista's got a journal with the same title at the moment. I'm with you now.

Firstly, you can ask for feedback, assuming you mean from interviews and the like. They may not give it, but some places do.

Secondly, do you have a Connexions office near you? I'd imagine they could help.

If you're trying to find a way into a certain field, I highly recommend http://www.prospects.ac.uk/cms/ShowPage/Home_page/p!eLaXi. It's fo graduates, and I don't know if you are one, but it's really useful and it has very detailed info.

oops smiley - sorry ...unsure how to change the title without getting rid of it and starting again.

smiley - ta for the advice.

On trying my local Connexions all they did was lend an ear no more. I guess what this shows is that you should listen to yourself and create your own way.

Yes I'm a graduate. Prospects is good and Learndirect for job profiles. I think a revisit to these is perhaps in order.

Jimcracker7[magiclink.rip gone altogether. im back.in my home from home.

hi opi
-
from my experiences in the past, to get a job you want, you have to start on the bottom rung of the ladder, as they say.
-
in an office, its usually the mail room, in textile is loading and unloading things.
-
it doesnt matter in some cases, what uni qualifications your have, if you have no practical experience, you arnt wanted.
-
example, a friend as qualifications up to yazoo, and went for a job, and he was told he was over qualified, so he went for a job higher up the range, and was again told, you have to start lower, you cant win lol smiley - dragon jim

By the way, Opti, have you reached 25 solo edited entries yet? I would have thought you must have, but you don't have the badge yet.

Opti, do you know what kind of work you want to do? It may be easier to give you suggestions if you can give us some idea smiley - smiley

smiley - biro It's sometimes difficult to find the bottom rung of the ladder. I've found that I'm over qualified for things. My main issue is being able to promote myself though.

smiley - biro Nope, I've not reached 25 solo edited entries yet, but am nearly there.

smiley - biro I am a creative gal and love helping others...things on my mind are: youth work, library assistant, helping people with disabilities etc...I'm also still interested in gaining qualifications in outdoor sport such as rock climbing etc.

I haven't written any since I tried one on leaves, and got heavily criticized about the title (i.e. 'Leaves') under fears that gardeners would read it and be disappointed that it didn't contain anything much about gardening. I got very confused and ended up loosing interest. I might try again some time, but with the new baby due 1st May I simply couldn't follow any threads in Peer Review at the moment.

And then give up, because there's no need to be a fool about it smiley - biggrin

I will get writing again at some point I'm sure, I just need to find a more defined topic to write about so it doesn't end up too long or complicated.
