Car(e)less and healthy

The night before the husband told me that the car's motor isn't going to live for much longer. He got all technical, so apologise if I can't repeat what exactly will cause the motor to break down, because I can't even remember the German term, let alone know the English one.
He said we could prolongue the car's life by using thicker motor oil in the future and check it more often, i.e. every time we refill the tank*.
So now I have decided that it won't be me in the car when it breaks down, and that this is probably the best time to get used to being without a car.
This meant that I repeated last week's exercise of doing the shopping - but this time, I waited for the back home.
I just wish the husband would fix just one of the broken bicycles, it would make my life easier.
*And it would be me who'd have to do it, because he ALWAYS leaves the car with an empty tank for me.

Having got a Husband, who spent most of his working life away from home, I'm afraid you learn pretty damn quick how to check oil, water, gearbox oil, brake fluid etc on a very, very regular basis. It's much cheaper in the long run.
