Another year older.
Pastey Started conversation Sep 27, 2012
Today I turn 38, one year older and a lot greyer.
This time last year I had a few grey hairs. Pepper grey as someone told me, just enough that you can tell I'm starting to go grey. Now, I'm mostly grey. This is exaggerated by the fact that I have very fine hair. It always looks a lot lighter than it is. So now, I'm mostly grey, and the hair that isn't is no longer looking the light brown that it is, but is looking like it's a faded grey.
A good look in the mirror shows of my greying hair, and because of a certain website I've working on and not getting much sleep, I've also got heavy bags under my eyes. I'm starting to actually look older. I even, shock horror, had a mustache that could call itself one. Although I hadn't shaved for two weeks, so that's kinda cheating a bit. But I'm 38, and don't need to shave regularly.
With a shower and a shave I started looking my young self again, but I think that this may be the last year that I look it.
Thing is though, I don't feel old. I've never felt old. I've never looked to any age and thought "That's old." So I've never worried about getting to a certain age. I've didn't think "Blimey, I'm almost 21." I also didn't think "Deities, I'm gonna be 30." And now I'm 38 I don't think "Oh dear, I'm soon going to be 40"
The actual age doesn't matter. Never has to me. It's how you act. Some people were born 40, some never grow past 12. I like to think I'm forever somewhere in my mid 30s, old enough to be sensible when needed, and that I I don't know everything, but young enough to still enjoy myself when I want to.
No doubt though this time next year I'll probably look at myself in the mirror and see the old man I've become. Best get the beers in quick then.

Do people fall for the mature adult look though?
And it's never too late for a few good beers!
And, in case we forget, Happy Birthday!

Hey, happy birthday!
You've hit it on the head - you never feel older inside. All those old codgers you see are really teenagers behind their eyes.

I've felt old everysince. Can't remember a birthday when I wasn't worried about getting old.

Google is a teenager! I wonder what it will look like when it's 21.
Happy Birthday, Pastey. Enjoy some and be happy you have hair to turn gray.

I think it makes me look kinda distinguished.
Or at least it would if I didn't used to have near white hair as a kid. Maybe that's why I don't think it makes me any older

Happy birthday!
You should try being 48, knowing you'll be 49 later this year *shudders at the thought* That's a bit too close to 50, since I've always claimed I won't be middle aged until 50, because I intend to live until I'm 100
But on the inside, I still feel like... 25, I think.
And I hope I look younger than this Swedish politician (of Italian origin) who was born the same year I was:

Well, there is this article suggesting that middle age doesn't begin until 55.

But since we all know "time is an illusion, lunchtime doubly so" and all that, any age is an arbitrary distinction.

I hope you had a good day. I tend to forget my age, bit as I'm usually in the company if those older than I, I teens too usually think of myself as the kid of the group. Just because it's no longer true doesn't mean that I don't think it!

Somewhere in my mid to late 30s, my gray hairs brought reinforcements, and now it's not funny any more.
Happy birthday, and many many happy returns, Pastey.
