Not completely, just flashed a nice 'new' system to the computer nirvana . It was a high powered SuperScalar big memory, big harddisk system, just only some problems with the IDE controller that I hoped to fix with a BIOS update
. Only seven years old
.
Happy, while the 'Industrial Action' (or was it 'Russian Auction') will be suspended.
Hurray, we will not have to suffer a forty two hour pre moderated site.
Whatever you say about 23rd May, it certainly drained the life out of the site, while it lasted and long after until all postings were cleared.
We have new visitors, new messageboards are approaching. (links as soon as they are published )
Hmm, the announced 'new' feature, so called Real Simple Syndication [RSS] does _not_ give more or even usefull information.

Muahahahahaha...I flashed the BIOS on my computer when I was about seven. I wish you luck with future computer fun.

"Ah, perhaps not completely official but < <./>/dna/mbni/</.> > has been opened ( 'Talk Northern Ireland' message board, for anyone interested)
Well it is not the first motherboard I flashed, it is not even the first I flashed to computer nirvana. Only this one I do not have a 'spare' to repair it with.

Traveller in Time on his head
"Yahoo not on strike ? great.
The official news (I keep losing the Links) does speak about suspended, only hope they will see any such action only does harm the public.
Well, what else do they have left with the back against the wall ? (Serious Siber Nitpicks Coorporation)"

Traveller in Time announcing downtime
"Well, offline time actually. Have been digging in this basement for more then a Danda. Wonderfull archeological explorations.
Some four meter of computer cabinets. Ranging from 8088 upto 80586, most still more or less functioning.
There is hope. . . Found another system with the same BIOS chip as the one I flashed out. There is a chance to get it online again
PII 350Mc some 42Meg on memory modules
Hmm, rebuilding the console will require to switch off some boxes. Expect to be some four hours down next days. "

Re: "PII 350Mc some 42Meg on memory modules" Any ideas what you'd use it for?
Nice find!
Have you been eating chips again, lil?
Mmm... crispy silicon-coated wafers.

Traveller in Time planning virtual machines
"I got an CD-ISO of DebIan on one of the disks. Hopefully it will install this time.
But perhaps I have to download it again, there were IDE controller problems making me start flashing it. "

I could do with a copy of Debian; hopefully I can put together a dual-boot development box soon. I'm a bit worried about driver installation though, I'm not very good at unix commands and I've heard some nightmare stories. Running NVidia though, should make things a lot easier.
Good luck with yours.

Traveller in Time from the brand new flashed PII
"< ftp.debian.org > ..../disks-i386/current rawrite the desired series then use the root.bin flop to install and prepare some disk space for the system. A next step is downloading an CD image, you can mount these with .. .. -o loop and you have the distribution CD available.
Ok, admitted I skipped some particular steps such as partitioning and configuring the Network Interface Cards. (More important then the display driver to me)
I managed to use an old Pemtium board to program the BIOS flash chip UniFlash much more powerful then Award flash or similar

Traveller in Time rereading his previous post
"Well, appart from the typo's (_a_ CD image) I think it was English. Perhaps English- computer Jargon.
The first part is a brief direction where to obtain and how to install a DebIan (Linux Operating System) Distribution.
And the last was me happy again as I managed to repair a motherboard. "

Annoyingly, although I understood it, it's not particularly helpful.
But only 'coz I can't download the image - I have very restricted 'net access.
But that's okay, I have some friends who are happy to loan me the install CDs instead.
