A fine way to spend an afternoon.

This afternoon, I went out and bought the Hitchhiker's Guide to the Galaxy DVD (widescreen). I put on my h2g2.com T-shirt, my two h2g2 buttons, my omnibus HHGG edition and my h2g2 mousepad (even though I wasn't using a mouse) and simply surrounded myself with my meager collection of Hitchhiker's things as I watched.
When I saw it in the theater, I liked it, but decided I needed to see it on DVD so's I could control it more. That was nice. But the thing that really struck me about the film the second time around was that earth was represented as such a beautiful, great place in it. We're occasionally self-destructive, but we are blessed to be placed on such a beautiful island, where... when we get ideas, swatter thing doesn't immediately hit us in the heads.
Despite the annoying ending ('The restaurant is at the other end of the universe.' and they turn around ) you have to feel hopeful after watching that movie. It's a wonderful world.
(no campaign pleas in this journal, but if you'd like one... Hypatia will keep this world a place)

I bought the dvd the otherday too, although I only have the dvd, the radio series and the omnibus book, i need a tshirt lol . Not least considering I have a habit of wearing a tshirt with a band and having tons of fans turning up at our gigs and saying I bought the cd on your tshirt. So i should get one with hootoo on it and all these people would come too hootoo . Oooo or i could get one with Cheese on it, or mushrooms.

You could make one yourself... though the little logo thing is a bit complicated.
I just finished the bonus features. Robbie Stamp and Sean Solle in the comentary seemed to think that the last line was rather clever precisely because it doesn't make sense.

yup the not making sense has alot to do with the humor, the only thing i dont like about the movie is the mobile phone bit.

Why not?
The DVD is pretty well set up. Looks like a guide entry, of course. Some good bonus features in there.

The DVD comes out here just before my birthday. I wonder if any of my family or friends will notice the closeness in the dates. Hmmm.
By the way, I liked the ending.

Being cut off from the internet (and working enough to not pay attention to the TV) I only just discovered the DVD's out. So naturally I went to get it immediatley.
I haven't gotten to go through the bonus material yet. I'm going slow and trying to savor it, knowing it may well be the last *new* hitchhiker's thing to ever come out.
Jodan, I wonder, was that an 'official' h2g2.com shirt? Those are few and far between on this side of the pond.

Terrible ending.
My favorite part as with the nose crazies The 'Bless You' pun is priceless.
Hey Broe
It is an official h2g2.com shirt, I believe I didn't make it myself - I'm not that talented.

My favourite part is also the bit with the nose dudes.
Did you find that the 'Making of' documentary was cut short somehow? When I watched it it was about 10 minutes (okay, maybe 15) long and I didn't see any of the clips that were advertised on the Front Page a little while ago, or any of the clips the producer and director referred to in the commentary. Is it possible that this is because it's the American release and it's different? Or did I just get a faulty DVD?
By the way, I like the redesigned PS. Who actually said the 'Damn John Jay' quote?

I did notice that the Whale Voicing wasn't what we got. Makes me feel that much more special though You're right that they referred to a lot more stuff in the commentaries than they actually had in bonus features. Not very many deleted scenes or bloopers or fun stuff like that.
The author of that John Jay quote is lost to history. If I remember correctly, it was basically 18th century graffiti that was written outside his house.

do you think I'll be thrown off the site if I admit I haven't seen the film yet?
Would wearing my .com t-shirt make a difference?

J Posted Sep 24, 2005
You haven't seen it yet?
Despicable
By the way, did I mention that Deep Thought is a Mac? You can see the little apple above his eye (the folks in the commentary nicely pointed this out)

I only saw it myself when it came out on DVD as I dislike movie theaters due to impolite patrons whom I'm not allowed to smack silent

J Posted Sep 24, 2005
I saw it in theaters... I almost never go to movie theaters but I couldn't wait.
I kept noticing little things and pointing them out. I probably should've been smacked silent, come to think of it.

MacDeepThought?
I'm shocked that there was product placement in the Hitchhiker's movie!
I'll get the DVD.
Better get a DVD player too, I suppose .

J Posted Sep 24, 2005
No DVD player either? For shame.
Perhaps your computer plays it... if it's a newish one. I watched it on my PowerBook.
iDeepThought?
I don't think it was a product placement, though. The commentary guys said that it was a tribute to DNA's love of Macs.

The first or the second really deleted scene? I like the second one. The first one dragged on too long, I think.
Key: Complain about this post
