Reefgirl (Brunel Baby)

My baby's just become a fully fledged St. John's Cadet.

We've been looking for something for her to do outside school for ages, there are no Girl Guide unit's near by and she's not talented enough for singing and dancing but there is a local St John's within walking distance from our house. She's always liked helping people and is alway first on the scene if someone's hurt themselves so we asked if she'd like to do it and she said yes, I did think that it might only last a month or so but no, she'd stuck at it since September and now she's got her certificate, badges and uniform now.

that's fantastic!

Does this mean she can go on duty at footie matches? Or what is involved?

Yep she can now start volunteering for duties, most of them will probably be in the summer during all the festivals, fetes and show's we have around here. I also think she has to do her fair share of tin rattling in the high street as well as parades and things

Thanks Rev and Sho

i think it's great - she gets to meet people and do something socially responsible.

I think I'll have to think of something the Gruesomes could do like that.

Well done her!! I'm impressed. Alwasys hear of kids going to elocution or something daft (no offense to anyone who's been) but this is totally fantasic and useful and I'm sure she'll get such a kick out of it.

Thanks all, I am very proud of her for sticking to it and I hope she goes further on in the order and stays with it and becomes an adult member, I have a lot of time for the St. John's people

Sho, do they have something like that in Germany? I thought it was unique to the UK

I wasn't aware of it until I just searched, but our St John Ambulance also has a number of programs for youths. Including cadets. You can see what all is available here via http://www.sja.ca

I didn't realise St John's had gone as far as Canada but I suppose if they had a branch in Australia they would have had one in Canada too, being part of the Empire so to speak. I hope the Gruesomes decide to give it a go Sho, I think they may enjoy it, it is a rewarding thing to do

well, we have to get them settled at school first - #2 is about to start a new one in August. After that I want us to be more socially engaged and that seems as good a way as any to do it.

Try their website? They might have something to find units in your area.
